Just when the world seems to be collapsing in economic ruin, Mount gives us a book-full of reasons to take pleasure in what we see around us. I'll be buying several copies to give to people this Christmas - and I expect to see this charming, clever, hugely entertaining tome popping up in people's homes for years to come. Mount has staked a powerful claim to be the James Lees-Milne of our time.

This is an epic journey through the life of chagall. It is an absolutely fantastic journey which should be enjoyed by all. Anyone who does not like this book (not that I have ever met any such person) obviously has no cultural insight or intuition. This book has been shortlisted for the 2008 Whitbread Prize (results are being awaited), and considering it has been out for only a month, I think that says a lot about the quality. It is a fantastic must-read.

Received the book yesterday and my husband (who's an architect), hasn't been able to put it down. He thinks it's brilliant, informative and concise, he's using it now for work he's doing. Would recommend it to any student or Architect who needs reference in an easy to read format.

This book includes hundreds of beautiful photographs of the featured buildings, along with maps showing their location and a useful, illustrated glossary.
The secrets of these churches cover aeons of time and the book features examples like the remote Romney ... Read More:

This book is brilliantly written and full of insights into the many cogs of the art world machine and who lubricates them. Judging by her qualifications, Sarah Tornton was designed to write this book. I look forward to looking at her next project. My only minor criticism of this book is that the pace of the writing slows a bit towards the very end.

Here is an area where the old school of design still lingers, the book is very suitable for specific tasks but really needs improving on. Having said that I threw away my copy of Charlotte Baden-Powell's book as soon as I got this - because even this tome is much more useable than hers.
