When I am looking to learn about something and dont want to be blasted by information overload and jargon, I usually look to learn from someone who is an ordinary individual that just had a go and learnt as they went. And this author is one such individual, who learnt from experience, aquaintances and trial and error and general workshops. This book is very accessable from a lay persons perspective written in a friendly and coherent manner. Whats more, she seems to cover everything that is required to day trade including psychological attitude, risk v reward, trends, technical analysis, chartings and any thing else one could require for a good footing in day-trading. Good for the begineer too, but you would have to go slowely to absorb the information.. ... Read More:

In addition to the wide range covered by this book, as reviewed clearly elsewhere, I found that it gives a new perspective of world history and how considerations of trade affected historical events to an extent that I had not realized. I have learnt a great deal from this clearly written account that I have greatly enjoyed reading.

This is very general book with several general strategies how to trade, but definitely not enough to be a good trader. I can recommend another one "Forex Patterns and Probabilities" which is way better.

This book really changed my approach to trading as it gives an invaluable traders view into the world of trading. John Carter is a full-time trader and fully understands just as much about the psychological aspect of trading as the technical. He gives a fascinating 'insiders' perspective on trading, he explains why some technical tools work really well, then at other times the same tools don't work at all, what causes the markets to act in the way they do, and how to devise a trading strategy that works for you.
John Carter gives a very honest appraisal of the world of trading, with some excellent insights into trader pyschology, as well as some superb and proven technical analysis techniques that he himself uses very successfully.

As a fully paid up member of the Economic History Addicts' Society, I endorse this book unreservedly for all who are similarly afflicted.
As to the root of the addiction, that's simple, and partly explained by the authors up front: in order to understand where we are, it's necessary to understand how we got here, and understanding where we are is an important part of knowing how and where to move on.
Nevertheless, there are some initially gratuitous-seeming pleasures involved in the journey, like the discovery that the events in Russia of 988 CE were more significant than those of 1917, for example. But then it sinks in that this is the point at which the people that would become the Russians were assimilated by the "civilised" world, ... Read More:

I agree with the other comments here. This book is an excellent introduction for those who need to know a bit about shipping relatively quickly. I've only been working in a shipping company 2 weeks, but this book has multiplied my knowledge significantly.
I also think it will be useful as a reference book, to dip in and out of.
Don't be put off by the "economics" title - it does treat some aspects from an economics/market analytics approach, but the majority of the book is spent explaining the entire shipping industry very simply and clearly.
Finally I found a real global marketing book. This book has a much better global focus than most American books that are so clearly American. The Danish author Hollensen, manages to give this popular subject a fresh feel unlike so many of the books issued lately.
Kudos to you Mr.Hollensen.
