An absolutely vital handbook that helped me significantly through medical school. Although it's nowhere near as comprehensive as separate textbooks are, it's an invaluable aide memoir that does go into significant detail.

This book is amazing.
Definitely the best book in its field.
It was recommended to me by fellow students, SHOs, Registrars and even Consultants and you can't ignore that many recommendations.
It's easy to use - it has everything you'll need in one place yet it is compact. Ideal for medical students. One registrar even said it was a great text for the MRCPCH clinical exam too.
But most of all the book's appealing lay out makes you want to read it and not add it to your collection of door stops.
So a text that will help you pass your medical school exams, fill you with enthusiasm about paediatrics and also be of use when you graduate - that's a bargain!
A wonderful book! I have an 8 year old son with AS and have probably given away 20 copies of this book to friends, family and the school classroom. It is particularly good for children as it makes unusual behaviour seem understandable and OK, rather than threatening or strange.

I have noticed Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals has motivated some parents with AS kids to understand the specifics of AS. And they must have been so relieved, if you ask me! They seemed really surprised to find most of the symptoms applied to their AS kids in this book. Although Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals isn't as informative as his most recent book, The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome, both of them will help Aspies and people dealing with them change their attitude toward AS more positively.
Neither of the books include difficult technical jargons and complicated structures. Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals seems a bit old-fashioned to me because it includes ... Read More:

This is an excellent resource for anyone working with children and young people!! As a newly qualified social worker, in the children and family field, I was looking for practical resources and this book has more than met my expectations. Colleagues have also proffered the opinion that they have found the sheets a boon with the children/young people they work with. The worksheets are great and the on-line resources were an added bonus - extra worksheets designed specifically for computer literate young people which can be saved on floppy disc. CBT materials are very difficult to locate, but this book more than makes up for the lack of resources elsewhere. The author deserves a medal!!

I am a great fan of the Oxford Handbook series, although the OCHM is a difficult act to follow. I am sure the content of the OHP is good, if you can find it. I have to agree with a previous reviewer about the poor indexing of this book. Look for 'reflexes' in the index and you'll be directed to a page about the patellar reflex, but not the primitive reflexes (there's a separate entry for them). There are many other instances where something has not been in the index but I have eventually found it in the book by leafing through the pages. Improve the index and this would be a good book. I am surprised that the UK Growth charts, or at least and example of them (apart from the BMI one) were not in the book. Maybe they are and I just haven't been able to find them yet.

This book is deservedly a classic, referring to affectional bonds in the psychological sense of affect or emotion it is an innovative collection of essays from Bowlby.
Bowlby was an analyst who was central to developments placing psycho-analyse on a more scientific footing, in this book he contrasts analysis with social learning theory which he felt was more scientific proceeding from testable hypothesis, and focusing upon the development of psychological traits, ie attachment.
In many of the chapters Bowlby appears to be writing recommendations for further research or establishing the limitations of existing theory. This book is a good place to begin to discover Bowlby's essential ideas about attachment, bonding, seperation and loss, the ... Read More:
