This is not a good book. I read quite a bit and feel like the book world is going mad if it believes that this book is a prize winner. It reads like a high school students attempt at a novel.....

I studied this period (and this battle in particular) during my history degree in the early 90's and decided that I would delve back in time to remind myself what this was all about. Azincourt was my companion on a return flight to Bahrain recently and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Historically interesting, full of action and detail it really had me turning pages through both flights! When I landed at Gatwick I was disappointed to have to find another book to read. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a passing interest in medieval history, but it's easily accessible to absolutely anyone who enjoys as good action adventure.

What a great book - packed with gems of wit and wisdom. Only the interesting-facts QI team could deliver such a great collection and do it so well. Clearly a real labour of love for those who put it together.
A veritable treasure trove. An ideal present for almost anyone on almost any occasion.

Having read the three and four star reviews, I had second-thoughts about purchasing 'Stephen Fry in America'. But after purchasing the book on the back of watchin three episodes of the TV programme I was compelled to write a review and it is one of 5 stars, as I'm sure you may be aware of! I can tell you my friends, that this well put together travelogue of a quintessentially Englishman's journey through and into the heart of America is almost definitely a book everyone who 'views' this item on amazon should purchase.
I don't want to slate the former reviews (apart from the 5 star one, great outlook ol' chum) because they're entitled to create their own opinions but they are wrong! To quote Mike D of the Beastie Boys, "I don't speak what I hear, I just say ... Read More:

Due to the acclaims given to this novel, I expected something truly unique; especially due to the interesting narrative - death. However, I couldn't be more disappointed if I tried.

I have read my fair share of books and I am also currently studying Nazi Germany, so I have some insight into Germany around the time in the novel. Before I delved into this book, I thought it sounded incredibly interesting; the narrative was different, the setting and date was at a time of interest and the mystery seemed to be lurking from the synopsis on the back. However, instead of feeling like I was connecting with the characters and enjoying the story line, I felt like I was being taught a History lesson into Nazi Germany all over again.

Now don't get me wrong, ... Read More:

I didn't think that I could enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the Kite Runner which is the main reason why I have put off reading this book for a while.
I absolutely loved it. It is full of more of the wonderful evocative description at which this author excels. He seems to be able to create the atmosphere of the moment by describing the surroundings in detail - emphasising the destruction when times are bad and concentrating on the beauty of nature in the more positive areas of the book.
There are many male authors who write from a woman's point of view (some more successfully than others) and this book seems to get the feelings and emotions just right.
Another great part of the book is the education process, learning more about Afghanistan history and some of ... Read More:

This book was recommended to me by my mum who kept going on about how it was the best book she had ever read so I decided I'd give it a go after reading through the first chapter of The House At Riverton in a book shop and deciding I liked the authors style of writing.

I absolutely loved the way that the book interweaved the different characters throughout the novel and didn't find it too difficult to get to grips with different chapters being set in different time frames, if anything I found the variety nice and it kept the book moving along building the story beautifully to it's conclusion.

Throughout this book I kept trying to second guess what the authors intended plot was going to be, she continually surprised me and moved the goalposts and I thoroughly ... Read More:

A lot of novels are "worthy" but you need to put a lot of effort into getting the most out of them; others are page-turners and pass the time easily and pleasurably, but don't do much else. The Kite Runner has that rare quality of being both worthy and a page-turner - and you learn a good slice about Afghan culture to boot. It's a very concisely written novel which tells a fascinating story and which contains sharply-observed characters that you come to really care about; the author's honesty shines through from start to finish.

As a big fan of India Knight and someone who is actively trying to cut back I was delighted when I saw she had written this book. Having read it though I have to say I am quite disappointed. It's written in her usual entertaining style but the content consists mainly of patronising rubbish backed up by endless lists of websites which anyone good at Googling could have put together. It's also clearly aimed at townies/Londoners which is highly annoying for the rest of us. The suggestions for saving money seem to be split into three categories - a) things lots of people already do because they don't have much choice like taking a packed lunch to work or holidaying in the UK, b) 'trendy' ideas that people have actually been doing for years like making jam or handing down clothes and c) 'investment ...
