Pam Ayres is one of those rare people who can bring tears of laughter to her audience with her gentle humour, whatever their age. These poems are from her early years and seem just as fresh as ever. Pam has written some introductions to the poems and there are some nice line drawings. I think most people will have heard at least one of the poems; I'm half expecting Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to recite "The Battery Hen" at any moment, it is just as true now as it ever was.
I can't imagine anyone not getting enjoyment from this book, it proves that poetry doesn't have to be dull.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick and easy read, admittedly, but it does not bill itself as a Shakepeare textbook or biography and would be a different animal if it was. If you take it at face value, it's a fun read, helped along by Bryson's amusing style.

First, the good stuff: this is a bold, honest, naked and funny tome about the writing process for one of television's most acclaimed comebacks. The reader follows Russell T. Davies through the agony and the ectasy of the entire writing process and, goaded along by Benjamin Cook, who acts as much as a muse as an enabler, the cigarette-fuelled revelations are so personal that one can get a contact high from being so ensconced in this man's head.

The pictures (including many beautiful stills during production as well as Davies' insanely brilliant cartoons) are to be cherished as much as the raw scripts that litter the hysterically titled email exchanges between Davies and Cook.

The ugly bits, for me, come from Davies' ... Read More:

This is a beautiful collection of love poems from Beethoven to Napoleon to name but a few. I saw this featured in Sex and the City and had to read it! I then found out it had been created following the demand after the movie and thankfully it was!
Made me laugh when one 'Great Man' wrote love letters to multiple women but I guess the heart can love more than once!
Get it for a loved one of yourself, truly heartwarming.

Gavin and Stacey has been something of a little phenomenon, winning awards aplenty and appealing to a wide cross-section of ages. Its success lies in creating a skewed but completely believable world populated by eccentric but lovable characters. Its essential sweetness is ideal for disguising the odd completely filthy gag or piercing satirical observation (the surnames of Gavin and Stacey being Shipman and West is only the tip of the iceberg. Here, for example, a police incident report recalling Gavin leaping a ticket barrier evokes uncomfortable parallels with the De Menezes case).

James Corden and Ruth Jones are not only wonderful performers but write with real comic insight into the quirkiness of life and the human condition. The story of Gavin ... Read More:

The book is delightful and I enjoyed it immensely, the only downside of this paperback edition being that pages fall out as you turn them over and read them (only a problem if you drop them, which I did!). But what can you expect for £1.99?

It gives a very interesting insight into Victorian life of both poor and rich, and links what goes on in the outside world with the inner thoughts and the actions of individuals. Wonderful descriptions of people and places. Better than the television production, though rather long and needing a lot of concentration. Well worth buying, well worth reading, and I would have given it 5-star for content, but I marked it down to 4-star because of the many loose pages.

I am really interested in the Mitford Sisters so I have been really looking forward to getting this book. It was much bigger than I expected but was very enjoyable. I admit that I got a bit bored with all the footnotes and about half-way through just started to ignore them unless I was really confused. Through the letters you get to see life from their many different perspectives, it really made me think of the relationship that I have with my own sister and the many times that we have seen the same situation in very different ways. I would recommend this book to people even if they are not a fan of the Mitfords- it gives a really good insight into that period of history.

The book is, as other reviewers have said, misnamed, since virtually no actual making is involved; instead it offers ideas on how to decorate ready made items. It offers no challanges in terms of craftsmanship;indeed, from the sewing skills involved, it would seem to be aimed at primary children, but I can not imagine any child wanting to make these projects. A pointless book, all in all.
