I was first given this book several years back, but recently, I found a copy in my friend's study. It was a delight to reread the pages again, as Swami Satchidananda's writing is timeless. I gained much from revisiting this old friend, and it is this book that I used as a cross-rerference when I was writing my book, LIVE Patanjali!

There are many books on dream yoga on the market. However, this one is the only one, that I know, that also deals with sleep yoga, the state of consciousness beyond dreaming.
Metaphysics is a difficult subject to write about. Tenzin Wangyal is to be congratulated in writing so clearly, originally and authentically. This is no dry book with only theories, but comes from a man who was born for the role. It carries many personal anecdotes to illustrate his eminently practical approach.

I read this as a young hippie and the cookbook informed a large part of my subsequent spiritual life...but what goes around comes around eh? Now it is called "Mindfulness"and there are courses/papers/seminars on it! There are also evangalists and the whacked out pushing Mindfulness, so tred carefully!

It's o.k. Not much else I need expand onto the title I've given this review. It's an easy and quick read and unlikely to make the head hurt.

I would highly recommend this book to all - Yogis, non-Yogis, Christians and non-Christians.
This book is a synopsis of the original larger two volume set that Yogananda wrote, in which he gave his interpretation of the four gospels - verse by verse.
Although it is a small book and can be read quickly, I have found it needs to be read (and reread) slowly so that it's inner wisdom can be better revealed.
I am inspired to read his larger work.

Your first obstacle will be to find a faithful translation of his Yoga Sutras. The Yoga Sutras were written in an extremely terse form so that the words do not even form complete sentances, and they can be interpreted in numerous ways. Consequently numerous translations have arisen which fail to convey the original meaning of the work. For instance, when describing the siddhis (supernatural powers which can be attained through certain meditative states), some translations interpret these as being simply metaphors. The translators may be learned scholars and doing their absolute best to offer their books in a spirit of devotion, but they simply do not understand the reality of what Patanjali was saying. BKS Iyengar has spent his life ... Read More:

This book is both a 'how-to' guide and an introduction to the background and context in which Usui developed the system of Reiki. It opened my eyes to the background of the system of Reiki in Japanese culture, as well as showing this traditional form as a living practice.
Though simply written, the book can be read and re-read: new things strike me every time.
Among the forest of books about Reiki now available, this is definitely one to buy and treasure!

The focus of the book is the spiritual, followed by the sexual, and that is how Tantra should be perceived. As a general introduction to Tantra, it's scant and not very effective. Anderson believes that Tantra is the perfect spiritual path for modern gay men, because it is not dogmatic, and is based on the pleasure principle. But the connection between Tantra/Shaivism and homosexuality given in the book is just commentary, and there's no real evidence to back it up. As a 'how-to' book, it only gets into its stride toward the end, and features energy and consciousness raising practices which can improve the gay sexual experience. These core practices should not be skipped, as they are fundamental to Tantra, and it's good that Anderson emphasises this. ... Read More:

This book is all about letting go by doing nothing purposefully. Judith Lasater, a very experienced Iyengar yoga teacher, shows the reader in words and pictures how to use everyday props (e.g., blankets, pillows, walls and floors) to travel the highway to the state of relaxation. I had the opportunity to practice restorative yoga with Ms. Lasater in Montana about two years ago and I can attest to the fact this yoga works to relax both the mental and physical muscles in the body if practiced regularly. Since most people can't go off to Montana to practice yoga, this book is the next best thing to being there.

This is a fantastic book by two fantastic teachers. To get this kind of teaching from the direct lineage of the Dalai Lamas of Tibet is truly rare. This book explains not only how yoga works but why. It has a full yoga workout that you can use to build up a daily practice and is explained step by step with good quality photos.
Geshe Michael Roach and Christie MacNally have both completed a 3 year silent meditation and yoga retreat (very rare in this modern world), have studied with both Buddhism and Yoga's most respected teachers, and are renowned teachers themselves. I can't say enough about how highly qualified these teachers are, they have translated dozens of ancient Tibetan and Sanskrit texts, and developed dozens of authentic courses ... Read More:
