This was an excellent and highly informative read. Previous reviewers have pretty much covered the aspects and arguments of the book so I won't repeat what has already been said.
Along with E P Sanders' "The Historical Figure of Jesus", I consider Tabor has got the closest to the real Jesus, that is, the Jesus living in first century Galilee. I have no trouble viewing Jesus as both a "viceroy for God" (as Sanders asserts Jesus saw his role as) and a would-be king of an independent Israel with apocalyptic tendencies (as Tabor sees him). Tabor writes in a scholarly, yet popular and easy to follow manner, which helps to make a difficult subject accessible to scholar and layman alike. The notes and references at the ... This is just a quick thumbs up for the previous two reviews which sum up the book nicely. There is much food for thought and plenty of information for further reading. Some of the most interesting aspects for me were the descriptions of the ancient structures found in the pacific ocean. Undoubtedly the remnants of the lost civilisation of Lemuria that the inhabitants of Hawaii, South America and other pacific islands claim to have descended from in their 'myths'.

A good read but quite slight. Although I did agree with most of the author's arguments it was mostly because I was familiar with them already. I can't imagine that this would likely convince anyone who believes in 'alternative' notions of reality as it doesn't really examine them with any real rigour.
I'm still looking for the definitive book on all things 'woo' and though this is not it, it's still a decent primer into the world of 'Counter-Knowledge'. Where the subject of this book -counter-knowledge- begins and ends I don't know and from the author's definition I'm still not entirely clear. Reading this book is a bit like having the TV series on DVD; there's a lot more extras, and the commentary is a lot more in-depth.
This book is all about Jon Ronson (a cross between Woody Allen and Louie Theroux) and his travails as he interviews the world's leading conspiracy theorists. Like Louie Theroux he tends to sit back, play innocent and let his subjects talk themselves into a position of absurdity, but in the book we get more of a chance to read what it would be like to be in the company of these people. It's amusing, and it's interesting to see how the underlying atmosphere of paranoia starts to get Ronson considering the possibility of even the more absurd thoeries going round. Anyone who has read Timothy Good's previous coverage of the UFO question will know that he is probably the UK's most respected authority on the subject. In this book he documents the major cases over the years, and highlights the ongoing coverup. I think this would make an excellent introduction on the subject for the casually interested reader who wants to know more, as well as an update for the more seasoned UFO sleuth.
Investigators in this field have a tough task; with the possible exception of the Roswell case, the mainstream media tend to single out the lunatic fringe for ridicule, so the general public has for the most part, been ignorant of what exactly has been going on. you do the general public a great service by questioning the mainstream of historians views on civilisations and well history on a whole, i found this book fantastic enlightening scary questionable but most importantly solid his works are well studied and seen first hand. and it will make you re think the history of human civilisation. i for one admire people like graham hancock who arnt afraid to push the bounderies of the incredible acheivments our ancient ancestors discoverd and built where as the mainstream comunity describe them as un civilised barbarians. i recomend this book to every human beign on the planet.

Written by a physicist and theologian, it follows their own extensive experiments in orb phenomena. Since they used two very different experimental approaches, this led to some similarities (and some differences) in their interpretation of their outcomes. And in some respects, they left more questions raised than answered, which is, I guess, one of the outcomes of fairly rigorous exploration of a field that exists beyond our physical senses.
Be warned, this is not a woo-woo New Age book. It does contain excellent information on how to photograph orbs, as well as how to recognize "fake" orbs (and when the photographer might have accidentally chosen a setting that would cause him/her to take fake shots). I find this particular topic fascinating, the notion that the worlds elite meet behind closed doors to plot future world events is truly disturbing.Daniel Estulin bombards us with facts and figures regarding previous Bilderberg meetings dating back to its creation in 1954.The final chapter makes chilling reading,Is the the collapse of the housing markets part of the master plan?,Is the energy crisis about to take a dramatic turn for the worst?A cynic may say these things are inevitable but Estulin maintains that the Bilderbergers are pulling the strings!
