This book is okay as a basic guide, however it has a few flaws...
1) Most of the information is easily available on the internet.
2) It sounds as if the person writing it has never heard the opinions of the students at the universities or been to them, it's just facts and figures, so you don't really get a feel for the universities.
3) It doesn't include colleges, such as the university college for the creative arts, it's not a university but it has university courses and validated BA hons degrees. There are a lot of Arts colleges like this that have not been given university status because they only do one subject. Many are now being given this status but a lot still do not have it, so this guide was not very inclusive ... Read More:

I've only seen the comment about Levi's and it's completly wrong. Levi was unemployed and made the pants out of sail cloth. Dyed them so they would look more like suit pants. A miner saw them and thought the tough material would make them good mining pants (1849 49ers). The pockets were added to carry rock samples. The rivets were added because the weight of the rock samples kept tearing the pockets loose. I wouldn't buy a book when the first thing I read was wrong.

This book is good, and has a lot of interesting material including plenty of writing directly by gifted kids. Overall though, the length, style and content of this book are more suited to older teens (yes, even gifted ones), and there is one chunk on choosing a college in the US system which take some translating for those of us on this side of the pond. I would love to see a version of this book for 9-13 year olds.

This book made it seem like if you didn't have a 4.0 GPA and a 1600 on your SAT that you didn't have a chance to get into the top colleges in the US, which is not true! She DID explain the admissions process, but didn't give any tips on how to increase your chances. the book was also poorly organized. Try another book besides this one.
