Having just started to learn Spanish, I've found this book invaluable for helping me to learn vocabulary. Although aimed at children, I can recommend it to all ages. It is fun and easy to use.

Minimus Secundus continues the rich combination of language instruction, Roman-British culture, grammar concepts, vocabulary, Roman culture, British culture, photos of real museum artifacts, and stories from classical times that characterized Minimus.
Flavius's family is picked up 5 years later, after the daughter is married. They are transferred to York, and the move is detailed. The difficulty of the Latin accelerates noticeably.
I found the use of the Minimus series added a break in formal instruction that was eagerly anticipated in every day's lesson. The comic-strip illustrations and the continuing story holds interest high.

This is a great little book for revision and covers all the important topics that are the essentials of French language learning for the relative beginner.
The only thing that lets it down a little is the somewhat cluttered layout of the page designs. This is a minor point though as the coloured pages and funny little situations make for an enjoyable revision experience.

Somewhere between a Phrase book and a Dictionary, this has words listed by topic, with just their translations. The words are also in separate lists for Masculine and Feminine. So for example there is a section for cars, with a column of Feminine words and Column of Masculine. The 'colour' aspect of it is pointless, the only colour in it is blue, the french is written in blue and English in black. Being in bold and standard type would work just as well. Saves time trawling through a dictionary when you know roughly what the word you want is.

This is a cheap and cheerful example of a growing collection of 'teach yourself hieroglyphs' books. The basics are covered, but no more than that - the ability to phonetically spell out your name using hieroglyphic signs seems a fairly unambitious aim for a whole book.
In my humble view the best English-language book which DOES teach you to read actual ancient Egyptian texts is Collier & Manley's book - the best introductory text since Gardiner's Grammar.
If you are at all serious about wanting to learn to read and write ancient Egyptitan, then buy their book - don't wait to upgrade to it later.
