I thought this book was cleverly written, from the view of a 9 year old boy - it is only because we have historical hindsight of the events that are being described by the boy, who does not understand, that the full story plays out in your imagination as the story unfolds.
I did not expect the story to end the way it did. I was gripped.

I reallly enjoyed this book, like all of the series but i was shocked how they seem to have skipped the other books into making them into audio books i was really looking forward to listening to Maximum Secruity but it seems they have decided to only realese the new books not the old ones.

This is a classic story for children, set in the 50's, it is about time, memory and friendship.
Tom, lonely and isolated as he is in quarantine, finds his way back in time, at night (when the hall clock strikes 13), to a wonderful old garden and a little girl called Hattie, who, to his curiosity, is dressed in old fashioned clothes. The two lonely children become friends and I don't want to give away the beautifully devoloped plot, but Tom slowly realises that Hattie is growing up, while he remains the same age.
The atmosphere of the story is both mysterious and engaging, as Tom slowly works out where he is and who Hattie really is.
The end of the story takes in the biblical idea of time coming to and end, or the modern notion of not ... Read More:

These audiobooks are brilliant. The voices and narration are wonderfully rich and varied, the stories are incredible and yet still credible enough to work. The pictures painted in the reader's imagination through the vocabulary used by the author are amazing - the reader can almost smell the smells, touch the textures and really *see* the colours within the scenes, and the narrator brings the books to life wonderfully. I now have all 7 of the Alex Rider books on CD, and would recommend any of them to anyone. They are suitable for teen readers, but also perfectly enjoyable for adults - I listen to them in the car on my commute to and from work, and it provides a very welcome distraction from the concerns of work!
This is a good book, good story, well written BUT. Why was Charlie Higson chosen to take on Ian Flemmings work? Why is it set in the 1930's. Danile Craigs parents where not born then? The modern James bond would have grwon up in the 1970's. Am I wrong. I think this is where Anthony Horowitz has come in. He has already wrote the Alex Rider series set in current time. Now he is writing the Jason Steed series set in the 1970's. So he would be a modern day bond that we now see on film. However Flemming people never chose Horowitz one of Britians greatest authors.
Back to Silverfin. No its not Harry Potter as some say here. harry Potter is better, this is good, a little predictable.

Robert Muchamore usually delivers - until now! The first in the Cherub series, The Recruit, had me hooked on the adventures of child spy James Adams and his sister, Lauren.
But now for the first time the Cherub series has failed to compete with the other big spy book series - Alex Rider, Young James Bond, Jimmy Coates.
I feel very let down by The Sleepwalker. Muchamore usually creates believable and likeable characters, characters you invest your emotions in - or at least he tries. In The Sleepwalker, however, he dwells less on the people and more on the action, but even that is poorly executed.
His characters become cartoon-like, one-dimensional - with no real depth to them. The story within The Sleepwalker is also lacking. Although the ... Read More:
