I greatly enjoyed the first book, Flash Flood, and was looking forward to reading this one. However, I thought this one could have been better. Flash Flood is definately the better of the two, and the fact that a lot of the book was in a small plane and the main characters weren't in any danger made this book much less interesting. But, saying that, i think this is still a good read.

This book is such a valuable contribution to an at-home or school bookshelf that I am amazed it doesn't already have a page of great reviews already. It's bright and lively to look at, following a little boy and his Grandpa, and at the same time it introduces clearly and cleverly the ideas of recycling etc. to small children and explaining why it is important.
George is a typical little boy dressed in cape and pants playing at saving the world in a superhero-esque way. But Grandpa is older and wiser and explains a different way to save the planet - and the ways that a small child really can change the world which involves not just recycling and repairing, but eating a locally-produced strawberry tart and hidden treasures in the local ... This book has been a real treat for the reluctant readers I teach. The text is simple and the boys love reading the subtle illustrations even more, finding themselves drawn into the details and hints littered through the story. Truly chilling and truly great.

I loved this book when i read it, many years ago. I can still remember what it was about, so it must have made a impression. Basically it is the story of how a time machine, designed to bring back extinct animals, attracts the attention of some very unsavoury individuals.
I would recommend this book for 9-12 year olds who want a good read, though it will be especially apreciated by sci-fi fans.
Perhaps not the most subtle book, it raises questions about the uses and abuses of science in a way accessible for children.

I read this to my sons, now aged 38 & 34. Out of their extensive collection of books, it was always the favourite. I can recite it by heart even now. Just ordered a copy for the youngest grandson, his sister aged 15 said she would love to have a copy to read to him, it brings back such memories!
I always got a lump in my throat on the last page!

The book is written in a really friendly way and is designed to engage with younger readers. It's the kind of book we should all read to our kids - books like this, and newer ones like yucketypoo are pitched at the right level to engage and explain important issues. We loved it.
