This is a horrifying story about a boy's school where there is literally a chocolate war.
A secret society of boys, which the administration has always turned their back on, takes over a school chocolate sale. The boys are all asked to sell fifty boxes at two dollars apiece instead of the normal twenty-five at a dollar. And the leader of the secret society is one of the students who is pushing the sale. And he tells one student to refuse to sell the chocolate for ten days, but on the eleventh he is to take them. And he doesn't. This book is interesting, and has a lot of twists and turns. This book wouldn't be one i'd personally choose to read (not my preferred genre) - i had to for an English course. All in all it wasn't that bad. I have to read it a few more times before my exam and i'm not completelty cringing at the thought. i did like the non-cronological structure as it keeps the reader guessing holding their attention. Definatley for all of those wanna be detectives

This book wouldn't be one i'd personally choose to read (not my preferred genre) - i had to for an English course. All in all it wasn't that bad. This is not a book you read for the read. You read it to make you think. To look at themes and reality. Robert Cormier is an outstanding writer, and this book will hold you fast all the way through. It is a sad book, but it's supposed to be that way. When asked if he ever would write a happy book for young adults, Cormier is reported to have said no, that there are enough "happy" books out there, and kids need to have a taste of reality too. It is really well written, but is not meant to give you warm fuzzies.

The book is about a soldier who goes to war and his face is severley disfigured. Now he goes back to his home town in Canada. He hides his identity as he is ashamed by his looks. He goes back to get revenge on Larry la Salle, the man who betrayed him as a child and to find Nicole, the girl he had loved. But just as he finds her she moves away.

This is the 1st Robert Cormier book I've read, and i'll certainly be reading more because I enjoyed Fade so much - I can't stop thinking about it.
It's a sad, dark story and beautifully written. It begins with 13 yr old Paul who discovers he can become invisible. Paul struggles with this new power, the possibilities it gives him and the dangerous path it leads him down. In the second half of the book, adult Paul tracks down his nephew, the new fader. At this point the story becomes very disturbing and violent. I think this is a very adult book, despite it being in the teenage fiction range.
