My eight year old daughter and I are devoted Michael Morpurgo fans and Kaspar is undoubtedly our favourite so far. Beautifully illustrated and told with great empathy for the human and animal subjects. In all his stories he tackles big issues for children to understand and the portrayal of the sinking of the Titanic is no exception. Even so he kept us both gripped and the ending brought a lump to my throat. Whether you are a devotee or a first time reader you will not be disappointed.

This is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. It tells a tale of a normal boy who went off to fight in the war. It is the journey to his death. The story made me cry so much and even as i'm writing this it brings a lump to my throat. It made me to realise even more so, that we have to remember all those brave people who gave their lives for their country.

I've just finished reading this book with my 8-yr-old and can't recommend it highly enough. As one would expect of a Michael Morpurgo book, it is wonderfully written, but the story is very real and deeply moving. As dog owners, we often meet rescue greyhounds and they sometimes have backgrounds tinged with sadness or exploitation. Luckily there are people out there who do rescue or adopt them, just like Patrick and Joe in the story. No, don't buy this book if you want a factual book about greyhounds. Don't buy it if you want a fairytale ending. Buy it because it's a beautiful and affecting story that will make you smile, cry and maybe think about things a little differently. Both of us, child and parent, really looked forward to finding out what happened next ... Read More:

I dont read books much, but then when i went to the library the librarian pointed this book out to me, so i took it home and started reading. I loved the first half of it, where Arthur Hobhouse's life story is told,he is evacuated to austrailia with his lucky key given to him by his sister Kitty, where he lives the rest of his life. However the second half isn't as good although it is interesting to find out what happenes to Allie (Arthurs Daughter) on her long voyage to find her Fathers long lost sister Kitty,it still has some tension to keep you interested but it can get a bit boring. Overall it is one of the best books i've ever read, its just a little bit of a let down on the second half but, i still reccomend it to everyone who ... Read More:

I bought this book on the strength of the reviews and although it's ok, it's not as awe inspiring as it's made out to be. It's a useful book for youngsters who aren't aware of the cease fire on Christmas Eve during the 1st World War and that in itself is heart warming, but the ending isn't what it could be and leaves one feeling a little flat.
