This is a great book, nice print and easy to read. I was desperate to help my son who gets angry and frustrated quite alot. He is autistic and has speech and language problems and it was distressing to see him so angry. This book has helped alot.

Ravi Chandrasekaran's superb book provides a behind-the-scenes look at the attempts to rebuild Iraq following the US invasion and the collapse of Saddam's regime. It brilliantly exposes the inept handling of the situation such as the arrogance that drove many decisions, failing to include ordinary Iraqi's in matters, the handing of senior roles to Reupblican supporters, limiting the involvement of those with reconstruction experience and the Pentagon's attempts to lock out the State Department. This is an essential read for anyone interested in Iraq and the Middle East.

Saving lives while putting yours under risk sounds like the perfect material for a compelling memoir and the juicy title of this one sounds like it would deliver in spades. However I was ultimately disappointed by "Emergency Sex".
The book is written by three aid workers: Ken, a recent Harvard graduate; Heidi, a social worker from New York; and Andrew, an idealistic doctor from New Zealand. The three meet initially when they are all working in Cambodia and their stories intersect as they work together and separately on assignment in various `90s trouble spots: Somalia, Haiti, Rwanda, Bosnia. That's the problem with this book.It says it is an iside account,but,in the nature of underground paramilitary groups,the reader is left to take so much on trust.Virtually all the sources are "Republican source","confidential interview" and the like-it's hard to know what to believe.
For all that,the material from 1976 onwards(Gerry Adams becoming political leader,the dual nature of Sinn Fein and the IRA,the politicisation of the IRA,the drive towards negotiations,and finally Sinn Fein's eclipsing others to become the dominant Catholic/nationalist party in Northern Ireland)is highly plausible and well written.His conclusion,that the extremes have now taken over Northern Ireland,and that sectarianism is more established now than it ever was during ... Living in colorado, the columbine incidient impacted us greatly. This book offers real, common sense help in dealing with all teens. I have put its principles in action with my teen, who is not beligerent, just typical, and they worked wonderfully. I had trouble with my older teen girls, the therapist thought they need more freedom, stating that I was too restrictive. That was lethal,it gave them more license to mishave. Here is an approach that finally makes real sense and gives the parent permission to be the adult.

What a great book - I've read Leadership & Self Deception which was a great read but left me with lots more questions. This book answers them plus a few others.
A simple, easy to read story which I think everyone can relate to. I loved the explaination of the types of boxes and the examples of how they manifest in our behaviours. The way that this book could have been even better would have been to go into more detail / give more ideas about getting getting out of the box to get to a heart space especially as it's the cornerstone of the whole process. >>More Details |
