I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one, but when i did... i wasn't satisfied.
This book isn't bad at all, and if you are a neil-fan, by all means read it. But, this book just wasn't as inventive, as surprising, touching or original. the concept is great... the excecution.. not that great. There is nothing new, and i felt that i'd seen all the tricks before. (Strangely, the book read as a script. i could just see the film sequences in my head.) Also having read M is for Magic, i was already familiar with a great deal of the story. i almost skipped that part, but forced myself to read it again. Some of the Demonata books were shallow and dull, this was a cracker, Darren SHan was born in London in 1972 and moved to Ireland when he was 6 years old, where he has lived ever since. I totally disagree with the first two reviewers. Yes the rape doesn't traumatize her as much as it would a normal person, but she is supposed to be a magical person descended from a love goddess who has unborn twins genetically derived from 6 of her lovers trying to stay alive long enough to rule the fey! - surely you cant quibble about reality at this point in the series...
If you like a fun fantasy with a sassy heroine, trying to deal with court intrigues, old feuds and the various lands of the sidhe all battling each other then this is a great series, and a good book. However you rea;;y do need to read them in order to keep track of who is who. >>More Details |

oh WOW this book was great just glad what i got it i also got the other 2 as i have 3 to read one after the other i could not put them down and now i am waiting for the next one they are full of action and you get thinking that you are really living as cassie if you get in to your books like me and can get the pictures in you head as you read. you really get in to it a great book and left me wanting more not looking for all her books

From the first moment in book one, Lord Loss, when Grubbs Grady encounters the Demonata and their evil minions it is obvious to the reader that Darren Shan books are from a different dimension. You really have to read them with an open mind, and a slightly twisted one too! The heroes are constantly changing, from Grubbs in book one to Kernel Fleck in book two, back to Grubbs in three and then Bec in some of the later episodes. Whoever is in charge you can absolutely guarantee a frightening ride through another world, which Shan depicts so very well. As far as teenage horror goes this is about as entertaining as it gets. Me and my friend was late for class nd we really needed a reading book for registration or we will get detension. So me nd my m8 ran 2 da libary 2 choose a book. He loves darren shan books so he got 1, i grabbed a random book by darren shan 2, it was called "Cirque du freak". I fought the title was lame but when I read da book, i was astonished! Now I'm buying the saga of Darren Shan after reading 1 book.. I think that proves how good his books are. U will keep reading, if ur gonna stop on one page- u will jus carry on reading without realising. His books will change ur life forever.
