I have found that this book appeals to all ages from Year R - Year 6, especially for children with EBSD as there is no threat - just fun and enjoyment. It is also especially useful for children with speech and language difficulties as there is so much to look at,discuss and choose!

This novel reminded me of when I was a child, and I once said to my father that I'd really love to spend the night alone in a Library, being fascinated by books. When asked why, I'd replied by telling him that I believed that all the characters from all the stories came alive during the night and I wanted to see and to meet some of them. I was delighted at the prospect, until that is, my father quite sensibly pointed out by replying there would be many bad and evil characters amongst the good too - and of course he was right!
This is a long book, (over 500 pages!) and I'd be surprised at many very young people reaching the end of it. The story starts off very interesting, but as one or two other Reviewers have said; ... Read More:

When I went through the book I could remember the movie played with Renee...Miss Potter. How magicals are drawings and how creative is the story, so easy to get into it! I really recommend this book for kids but also grown-ups. Nice present for Christmas eve I guess.
Regarding the way how tales are presented, this is quite genius as well as everything is merged into just only one book, a good quality about the cover. Nice choice.

This book is one of the lasting memories of my childhood and luckily I still have the same copy from back then that I can now read to my own children. My youngest is 2 and she sometimes lacks the patience to wait for me to read all the text before jumping ahead to the next page but the charming illustrations enable her to have a good grasp of the story anyway. She loves the Burglar Cat and Burglar Baby.
It will always have pride of place on my bookshelf as it holds lovely memories for me and I hope my children look back on it with fondness in the years to come too.

This is an absolutely brilliant picture book - a crime to solve and illustrations that excite and draw in the child reader.
The story line is that, in a nutshell, branches are going missing from trees in the forest and the animals set about working out who has taken them. Meanwhile, we see bear with an axe, a saw, a pile of paper, and getting cross with an unsuccessful paper aeroplane. Can we, the readers, work out what is going on in the woods before the animals do?
The animals identify bear as the culprit and he's taken to the police station and then questioned in court where we learn why he has been taking the branches. These are very grown-up concepts and Jeffers has successfully kept the `criminal procedures' both clear and simple, ... Read More:

These audiobooks are brilliant. The voices and narration are wonderfully rich and varied, the stories are incredible and yet still credible enough to work. The pictures painted in the reader's imagination through the vocabulary used by the author are amazing - the reader can almost smell the smells, touch the textures and really *see* the colours within the scenes, and the narrator brings the books to life wonderfully. I now have all 7 of the Alex Rider books on CD, and would recommend any of them to anyone. They are suitable for teen readers, but also perfectly enjoyable for adults - I listen to them in the car on my commute to and from work, and it provides a very welcome distraction from the concerns of work!
I read this book for two children I was babysitting on Saturday night. I think I enjoyed it more than them! What a fab idea, perfectly written and illustrated. I'm going to be buying this for all the children I know this Christmas.

My 11 year old daughter has been receiving Klutz books from Santa Claus for a number of years now and this book like all the others is EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT. Outside the box is the hallmark of Klutz and I wouldn't be surprised to find that all their employees were aged between 8-20 as they really understand the mind of those humans who aren't adults.
I couldn't recommend this publisher enough. On this book specifically, my daughter brought it into school and it was a hit with the entire class of boys and girls.

Lola is very excited because Marv is bringing his little brother Morten round to play, and Lola has lots of plans for Morten, all of which Morten, who seems to be chronically shy, doesn't seem to have a lot of say in. It ends well, as usual, but with that nicely ambiguous mix of morality and what children are actually like and what children actually do, which makes these books so appealing.
This has the usual top class illustrations. I love Child's style, the cut and paste, scrapbook mixed with line drawing and other media. It's fascinating to see what materials she has mixed up to create such child friendly illustrations. This may seem common now, but this type of illustration and the mixing of font styles and uneven lines of type was pioneered ... Read More:
