This is both a beautiful and an informative book; these two qualities do not always grace the same volume! Anybody who loves genuinely quaint, remote and simply curious little churches and chapels should savour this book by Richard Surman.
It includes features upon some of Britain and Ireland's most fascinating churches, with each one guarding its own secret(s) which could be anything from artwork, carvings, stories, legends or simply an architectural peculiarity. After reading some of the previous reviews, I thought I would buy this book as surely some of the comments about the humour being awful must've been exaggerated!? Well, sadly not - the humour is truly awful. But don't let this put you off - the book in itself is amazing. I read it cover to cover in one sitting and had to get up to try all the techniques, despite it being way past my bedtime. I find the book easy to follow, the techniques are brilliant and will have anyone making the most of CS3 in no time! Highly recommended. (although I would agree that while the book tells you "how", it will not give you understanding of "why")

This is quite a big book, and comes with a very informative DVD. It goes into a lot of detail and this sometimes makes it hard reading, it probably best to not try and read it "cover to cover", but rather use it like I do as a "reference" book. Some excellent techniques are shown, and the book is very well laid out and it is normally easy to find the information you require.

With its attractive cover, I know you will pick this book up off the bookshop shelf if you are the least bit interested in jewellery making. From design ideas and inspiration, this book aims to take the jewellery maker through the whole process from start to finish. Comprehensive chapters include setting up a studio, materials, tools and techniques. Although it covers some of the same area as Elizabeth Olver's book Jewellery Making Techniques, the two books do not overlap too much and complement one another perfectly. The projects are laid out in easy to follow steps and the finished samples and steps are clearly photographed. You could easily use it as a week by week course. This book is brilliantly written and full of insights into the many cogs of the art world machine and who lubricates them. Judging by her qualifications, Sarah Tornton was designed to write this book. I look forward to looking at her next project. My only minor criticism of this book is that the pace of the writing slows a bit towards the very end.

The Lucy Pinder 2009 calendar is one Lucy's best so far, I really liked her 2008 calendar release but the 2009 calendar just improves on it and I for one am very pleased with the results! However based upon a previous reviews/reviewers there may be some people who will not fully appreciate this calendar because it does not show Lucy topless throughout or naked and for people who feel that way are just being unreasonable and at the end of the day comments like that are not really conductive. Also try to understand that Lucy is a person and deserves more respect and shouldn't be stereotyped in whatever she does.
All in all this is a very hot and beautifully shot calendar and a definite winner for 2009! New and existing fans of Lucy will not be disappointed. ... Read More: >>More Details |
