Insisting all western art (and there's nothing non-Western) follows a first there was this, then artists thought that, then artists thought that is way too simplistic. Yes it's a classic but is only useful in the classroom for school-age kids to grasp what a wide range of Euro-centric art looked like but nothing beyond that. >>More Details |

I bought this book a year ago now, and let me say it has been read and re-read many a time, showcasing plenty of street artists, but not much of their street art, their actual rough sketchbook work where they get the ideas for the big wall pieces, the drawings are amazing and there is plenty of variety and loads of pages, and at 9.97!? Bargain. I promise you if you like illustration and street art, and probs graphic design as a whole you will love this book and it is amazing, I only wish i could find more like it.

The introduction and subsequent text is very brief, and provides a glimpse into the artist's background and rise to success. The text makes little if any critical comment about the artist's work, perhaps leaving the paintings to speak for themselves. The book concludes with a list of the artist's paintings and exhibitions. The book really is all about the pictures.
There are about 160 full colour reproductions of Vettriano's paintings of which about half dozen are small images illustrating the text, there are over thirty full page bleed pictures many of which in fact amount to a page and a half and include one double page spread (the best in the book?). The full page glossy pictures of the most influential designer of the 20th Century almost make you salivate. I used to shop at World's End and wore the original Pirate range, but even then I'd still forgotten just how stunning it was. If you are interested in fashion, music, history, art, literature, anarchy and chaos, then this is for you.
