I was intrigued to see how this story would conclude after I enjoyed The Northen Lights and was rather disappointed by The Subtle Knife. I feel a little like I have wasted my time.
There is no doubting the imagination that has gone into the three books and they do contain some nice chapters, which is why they merit 2 stars. But in the end, this book just sort of drifts to a conclusion that is all too predictable. I felt a bit cheated at the end. I guess the take home message is that there is just a lot of much better fantasy out there. Nice try but not for me.

If you have read "His Dark Materials Trilogy" and enjoyed them you might be asking yourself the very question my title asks; where are they now?
Well... If you take a chance to read this book you will get some idea.
Here we look in on Lyra about two years after the end of the book "The Amber Spyglass".
Some people might describe this as a cheap money making ploy, but I think true fans (like myself) that were left at the end of the last book sobbing into their tissues, would enjoy this.
Yes, it might be a bit pricely, let us not forget that this short story is about the same length as a long chapter. But, we get the cool map and other paraphernalia that have fallen out between worlds into ours.
Long story short. Another messed up mum who is look aftering her two daughters and the mian character is a little girl. She thinks the world of her mum and older sister but then the mum starts to act silly when her older daughter is going to move out. The little sister is now left to find a way to make her mum feel better and come to her senses so that she can look after her and bring her sister home. Would recommend to read, actually quite interesting.

Starjik, a child taker, always came to the village to take away the children. One night, Starjik came and took away Ivan's little brother. Ivan loved his brother and so he went on a journey to find Starjik's land. Ivan was in great danger many times on the way to Starjik's place. But he finally arrived there safely. He was not afraid of Starjik and was able to warm his heart and turned him into a good person again. Therefore, the frozen children, including his brother, were saved. And they all went home happily.
This book is a bit weird but has many good parts. My favorite part is when an old woman gave Ivan his tears that he cried for his brother. And Ivan later used the tears to warm Starjik's heart. Another interesting part of the story ... Read More:

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is one of those eternal classics which has never failed to stir my imagination with its atmospheric and descriptive style, which seems to be lacking in modern literature. From the desolate and wolf-infested wold of Willoughby estate to the sinister and isolated house itself, the hideous girls' institution in Blastburn and to the busy streets of London, this is a whirlwind journey with a great variety of characters, both good and bad. The book's only faults are perhaps under-development of characters and the speed of the narrative which gives a pantomime feel to some passages of the book. But otherwise a rip-roaring adventure story and one of my all time favourite children's novels.

Fans of Pullman's trilogy should receive a fair warning before moving any further. This is not Lyra's Oxford, this is our Oxford so expect thugs, sex, crime but also love, trust and friendship.
Pullman retells the story of Romeo and Juliet with extreme adroitness. He manages to keep the lyrical beauty and truth of the play and avoids desperate attempts of retaining any elements that would seem dated and out of place in a modern novel.
This is a novel for younger adults but if you feel that your 13+ year olds have never heard about sex, you may need to read it first yourself. The danger is you may get hooked on Pullman seriously.

My Daughter is Home Schooled due to illness, her Tutor read this to her as part of her English lessons. The first chapter was captivating and got her hooked on the story, each week they would read a chapter and even I became interested.
The Story is about a teenage girl who is evacuated to Wales with her brother to live with a Shop owner and his sister.
Its an interesting read although not one I would have chosen for myself but as the book progressed I became more and more interested, I enjoyed listening to the tutor reading it aloud, it came alive (even Mums like stories read to them) even though I was in another room pretending to work!
To end the story we watched the DVD of the BBC TV production.
I intend to buy ... Read More:
