This is the bedtime favourite at our house too, my son has been listening to "Old Bear" almost every night for the last 3 years. I think there's something so soothing in the narrator's voice, it sends him off to sleep every time.

My brother was given this set of little books by our uncle, who lived in the States, when it was first published in 1962. He was four years old. It became a firm favourite in our home. My brother - the original recipient of the books - now lives in New York, and I asked him to send me copies first of all for my son, and then for the children of friends. I am still ordering copies and distributing them around the world - so far to New Delhi and Cape Town. The appeal of Maurice Sendak's enduring illustrations is universal and the miniature library of little books holds the same attraction now as it did when first published almost 40 years ago. In our family the original set is a bit of an heirloom.

Few can resist the art of Anthony Browne. His name on the cover guarantees sales to a multitude of parents, grandparents and doting aunts and uncles. His art is often times larger than life as is his skill in blending watercolors with stories that not only appeal to children but also often reflect feelings familiar to them.
Little Beauty is the charming story of a very unlikely friendship between a gorilla and a very small kitten named Beauty. The gorilla was extraordinary because he had been taught to use a sign language, thus he was able to tell his keepers what he wanted. He seemed to be quite comfortable with accouterment that other gorillas might only dream about. Nonetheless, he was very sad.

This is a great book. The illustrations are full of humour and you can really make the most of text when reading out loud. My children (aged 3 and 5)love to join in with each "Boo". I still enjoy reading it for the thousandth time.

My 19 mth old daughter thoroughly enjoys this story about Meg, Mog and Owl going out on a boat and getting shipwrecked after Meg makes a spell for more wind. They swim to a small island, where Meg makes a fire with a magnifying glass to get them warm and dry and Owl and Mog do some successfull fishing to feed them all. Finally they are rescued by a helicopter to whom they signal SOS. Great illustrations and you can make it exciting to read out by imitating the wind and morsing SOS.

Mog in the Fog is an excellent adventure - shame Owl stays at home for this one! Meg and Mog make friends with a Sherpa and his Yak. Their goal is to travel to the top of the highest mountain over dangerous terrain. On the way they encounter different types of weather until the FOG comes down. "Iceaxe, Compass, Goggles and Log" Meg's spell works a treat (this time) as the fog rolls back everyone is surprised to what or who they bump into. As always Jan Pienkowski and Helen Nicholl have created a vivid adventure that my two year old loves to bits - I enjoy reading to him as well - what a surprise! The few words on each page can be read in many different ways and the illustrations have many other story lines in them to explore at each ... Read More:

I first bought this book for my two young daughters, as I have always loved the tales and illustrations of Brambly Hedge. Its a wonderful book to buy as a wedding present from a small child as it captures all the magic and romance of a traditional summer wedding.
