Travelled almost 400 miles to see Sir Roger and get the book signed at Waterstones in Castle Street, Norwich, then queued for around 2 hours where we were given raffle tickets to get in. The first 200 were guaranteed, and only 300 would be done. After being handed a set of ''rules" namely no pictures, no dedications, no talking, virtually no nothing we were regimented through the store and got all of what, 15 seconds whilst Sir Roger quickly scribbled and then onto the next without so much as looking up at us and roughly treated by the staff at Waterstones, Norwich. Pretty disappointing really as I had seen George Lazenby and he spent time chatting with you. The book is a good read, easy to get through - I'd read through the chapters on the ... Read More:

What amazes me the most about Henry Allingham's fascinating and inspiring life story is that for 30 years he lived a quiet life in his Eastbourne flat, and hadn't spoken about the War since it ended. Then, after reaching 100, his life changed completely and he's now had up to 47 event appearances in a single year. This shows astonishing flexibility and ability to change. It is a truly inspiring book. Aside from the personal aspects given to many historical events it is an account of the triumph of the human spirit. Henry is a star!

Authors reading their own work can sometimes be a mistake, but not in this case.

Sheila Hancock delivers her words as if she is saying them for the first time, giving me, the listener, the sort of intimate experience the work deserves. It is like listening to an audio letter from an old, dear friend.

There is much more to this than simply learning to go on holiday or eat in a restart alone - as much of the publicity surrounding the launch suggested - and it will bear repeat listening.

She is clearly a very interesting, intelligent woman, not something you can say about all actresses, and her tales of times old and recent make up a revealing, but definitely not sensationalistic, picture of someone I wished I'd ... Read More:

I recently re-read Roger Lowenstein's biography, Buffett: The Making of an American Capitalist (first published in 1995 and now re-issued with a new Afterword), and then read this more recent one by Alice Schroeder. Both are first-rate. Which to select if reading only one? That depends on how much you wish to know about Buffett's personal life, including his relations with various family members, and how curious you are about his personal hang-ups, peculiarities, eccentricities, fetishes, etc. If you can do without any of that, Roger Lowenstein's biography is the one to read. I also highly recommend the recently published Second Edition of The Essays of Warren Buffet: Lessons for Corporate America, with content selected, arranged, and introduced by Lawrence ... Pam Ayres is one of those rare people who can bring tears of laughter to her audience with her gentle humour, whatever their age. These poems are from her early years and seem just as fresh as ever. Pam has written some introductions to the poems and there are some nice line drawings. I think most people will have heard at least one of the poems; I'm half expecting Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall to recite "The Battery Hen" at any moment, it is just as true now as it ever was.
I can't imagine anyone not getting enjoyment from this book, it proves that poetry doesn't have to be dull.

The Peter Pan of pop continues to enthrall audiences of all ages and this book, whilst clearly a must for Cliff fans, provides an insight into the way he ticks. Too much has been written about him in the past that has left questions unanswered. This book which is written with frankness and a helping hand from Penny Junor provides a good read about the life of a fascinating and caring individual. Instead of being written in a conventional biographical format, it dedicates chapters to specific stages or items in his life. However instead of producing a jarring account of his life, the chapters flow well into each other and provide a good and interesting look into the life of one of the most successful men the pop world has ever seen.

I eagerly awaited the arrival of this book..... and then struggled to make myself finish it.

The facts of the case of interesting but the book is massively padded out with all manner of facts on victorian life and morals which I found very boring and tedious.

I thought I had bought a really gripping true crime story but I can't believe the author managed to make a whole book out of this.

I really hate not finishing a book so I made my way to the end.... and then wished I hadn't bothered. The book went straight in the box for the charity shop I'm afraid. Dull dull dull!

Really enjoyed this book - very funny, rambling writing on a range of topics. Manages to be lighthearted and very entertaining, with some moments that are surprisingly poignant. Really hope this book isn't overlooked due to recent "scandal" as it's a great read.
