I'm a little reluctant to admit to watching Top Gear as a guilty pleasure, even though half the time I haven't the foggiest idea what they are talking about! It was on this basis that I bought this James May book, hoping that things would become a little clearer. James May seems like the perfect teacher, a lot less abrasive than Jeremy Clarkson and looking a bit more like a science boffin than Richard Hammond.

I found this book hugely enjoyable. The short articles mean that it is easy to pick up and put down and he covers a range of topics from haunted car parks to how to solve disputes with van drivers and from cup-holders in cars to camper van holidays.

There were times when I was still lost. For example; 'The BTCC ... Read More:

I had to think hard about the title for this review, it still feels wrong. This book is not 'enjoyable', 'mesmerising' or a page turner in the normal sense of the words. As all the other reviews state, its story of a convicted drug dealer is nothing new, but the depths of suffering and the barbaric nature of the incarceration make you read just the next chapter every time.

It's widely used in other circles, but this is car crash reading. Other peoples suffering and degredation seem to make 'good' reading, whether as a detterent or as a sense of gratitude for it not being you.

I would highly recommend this book as it is well written, it's not self-pitying and gives a harrowing account of how far life can go down the wrong ... Read More:

You are sitting back on the couch and you notice there is a film on the television starting in ten minutes. It's got people in you enjoy watching, but you've never heard of this film! Why and is it worth 100 minutes of your precious relaxation time? Turn to Maltin's and see what it's about, who made it, when, and what Leonard thought of it. As far as I am concerned he is usually spot on. If he says 'Turkey', don't waste time and change channels, or go on the computer, or even read a book!

I think I must have set my expectation too high for this book. It all looks very flash and i expected the edge to come from it being based on a true events.

Don't get me wrong i read this within 3 days cover to cover but i was always waiting for something to happen. A bunch of very smart college guys get together, they go to Vegas and make loads of money card counting and then the Casino's catch up with who the main guy is and bar him from their tables, big deal. i felt like i was mis-sold on this book buy the cover and the jingle "took Vegas for millions". This is NOT some elaborate Oceans 11 caper.

Anyway it made my tube journeys go by quicker but i would think twice about recommending it.

I'm not sure why this book has become such a big seller as there as so many better books available on the SAS. The book hardly features any actual military action, and I suspect large parts are fictional. Read Sabre Squadron or even better C.Q.B.: Close Quarter Battle by Mike Curtis. They feature far more action and are ten time better. So in summation, don't waste your time and money on this.

I'm not a big John Grisham fan - I find his novels fairly predictable - and picked this up because it is non-fiction. It made for disturbing reading.

Following the police case of the rape and murder of a young woman called Debbie Carter, Grisham reveals how two innocent men, one of whom had mental health problems, were convicted on the flimsiest of evidence.

It is a very American book - I would have liked to an explanation of some of the legal jargon and also baseball terms (one of the accused was a former baseball player) used in the book. It also only scratches the surface in some respects. At the end, in the author's notes, Grisham states that he had enough information to make the book much longer than it is and I think ... This is a gorgeous, sumptuous book. It works precisely because it let's Vivienne's clothes speak for themselves. The full page glossy pictures of the most influential designer of the 20th Century almost make you salivate. I used to shop at World's End and wore the original Pirate range, but even then I'd still forgotten just how stunning it was. If you are interested in fashion, music, history, art, literature, anarchy and chaos, then this is for you.

For all the shenanigans that went on over the past 15 years or so at the FA this is brilliant. David Davies seems like a pretty decent bloke, Sven and Terry too, despite the dodginess. Its the others that need lining up against the wall. This is at times frustrating, at times hilarious, at times it makes you angry... bit like what it must have been like working there. But you really get a sense of what went on, and why we haven't won anything for so long. Not like your typical dull football autobiog. I really enjoyed it!

This is the first Bryson book I have read and I really enjoyed it. The book follows Bryson's childhood, into teen years and was very funny. I was laughing out loud at most of the story. It was easy to read, a quick and satisfying read.

Bryson does put the book in historical context and talks about historic events that occurred in the 1950s and 1960s, including the Cuban Missile Crisis and the the threat of atomic bombs. However, this was interesting and often amusing as he explains how these events were viewed through a child's eyes.

He is very honest about what he got up to as a child, including minor thefts and bunking off school. He recalls many funny events and the life he lead in 1950s Iowa. The end was a bit sad, when he talks ... Read More:

This book was written with a true depth of emotion. It showed great love for a horse---a feeling I believe you can only experience if you have a horse of your own with a strong connection. When Lay Me Down was finally put to rest it brought tears to my eyes.
I would recommend this book to anyone with or without horses, it brings out the true feelings of love towards horses and what they can do for people.
