The first thing that struck me when I opened this book is that whilst it's 285 pages long the line spacing, margins and typeface are so big that it could easily have been compressed into a miserly 200 pages.
On reading the book, it is not hard to realise why because, whilst what it contains is very entertaining, it never goes far enough into anything; no area of Mickey Thomas's playing career or his life off the field is ever explored satisfactorily. This left me feeling that I knew no more about Mickey Thomas than I did before I picked up the book. For example, Mickey spent nine months in prison for passing forged bank notes. But whilst we are told about his life behind bars, nothing at all is written about exactly how he came ... Read More:

I picked this up to read on the train when I first started work and was the first biography I read. That was over fifteen years ago and I still remember much of this book. David Niven takes you through the highs and lows of his life. You are taken on a journey from the early twentieth century through his school years to Hollywood, back home to serve his country in the second world war, to the changing times of the sixties. There are real highs and a devastating blow that you would not want to experience in your own life. This book covers a span of time and experience that current biographies (Jade/Chantelle etc etc) cannot match as none of these chancers have experienced anything yet!

My Judy Garland Life is an enchanting book, it takes fascinating episodes from the author's life and fascinating episodes from Garland's life and creates something that is so much bigger than either of their stories. It is a wonderful and inspiring investigation into what it means to be human, why kindness is essential, how we must celebrate and grieve and give whenever necessary, and what happens when love and fame collide. This book argues cynicism away completely and offers something much more solid in its place, a kaleidoscope featuring all the different faces of love and all the different faces of loss.
Boyt's prose is both elegant and endearing, sophisticated and cosy. At times almost poetic, at other moments laugh out loud funny, ... Read More:

I picked the book up on Friday and had finished it by Monday and loved it. I knew very little about Islam and why people became fanatic and so reading this book was a fabulous insight into the world of fanatics.
From the start we can see how the author was alone in school and the only people who would talk to him were the people who bring him into the radical side. The book then gets very in deph into the Islamist world and why they believe what they do. Once the author leaves that world we see how he realises that all the things he had believed were all lies and the people who preached to them were telling them lies.
What is also worrying about this book is that a book about radical islam that the author read as a child was still on ... Read More:

Ronan O'Gara is something of a rugby enigma, a player of superb quality who has become synonymous with the Heinekken Cup and yet also the victim of unjust criticism and doomed never to receive the recognition he is due.
This autobiography is a great opportunity for a true rugby fan, whether a Munster or Ireland supporter, a Neutral or a grudging admirer, the book offers a chance to really get an insight into this great players life. I say life, because the work bucks the trend of recent sporting biographies to focus purely on the players career and instead provides a warts and all account of life as a professional player. The work is refreshingly honest and Ronan is quick point out his mistakes and regrets as his is to highlight his greatest moments. ... Read More:

In short, this is the best book I've read in a long time.
The author has an ability to switch flawlessly between great humour and very serious, thought-provoking concepts.
It's bascially a years worth of intense emotions compacted into 300 pages, and it hits you hard.
I'd reccomend it to anyone who has applied to do medicine, or is at medical school already.

This is a fantastic read. I was hooked at the beginning of reading this book. I couldnt put it down. I felt I was on the journey with the author. I cried! I laughed! I felt inspired and moved by Cupcake Brown's courage by the end of the book. I was so moved by this book, I sent an email to the author thanking her for sharing her story. This book is a must! Read by Bill, with a warmth that will captivate you from the first sentence, this enchanting CD [or book]is irresistible and many years in the coming. I used to work for BBC Scotland and in the hours that followed the radio broadcast of Bill's stories, we were flooded with calls from listeners desperate to purchase them in a book, or on CD. Not lost in detail, Bill's tales can understood and enjoyed by all members of the family, and should be. Enjoy but pace yourself, if you can!
