My brother was tragically killed 10 weeks ago, when he was only home for 3 days from where he has been working in Austria. He was a passenger in a car when a some timber fell off a van coming in the opposite direction, came through the window and killed him instantly, leaving the driver unhurt.
My Mum had found huge comfort in reading this book by Gloria. It was recommended to her by my sisters health visitor and she has been reading it on and off since the accident. We have struggled to receive any help from bereavement councellers and Mum wanted to be able to know that others feel the way she is feeling. From reading this book, although Caron dies in totally different circumstances, Gloria went through some of the same feelings ... Read More:

This book suffers from being badly written, which is a shame because Ian Rush was a hero to me when I was growing up. I was looking forward to this book and to be fair the first few chapters were reasonably entertaining, but before long it became the cliched football autobiography and there are long sections explaining the fine details of certain games. As a Liverpool fan, I am aware of these games and I can watch them on DVD if need be; there is nothing more boring than a running commentary of runs, dribbles and passes. Maybe it's because Rushy was naturally a quiet person that there doesn't seem to be too many really interesting anecdotes in this book, however his revelations about not originally warming to Kenny Dalglish and his opinions of ... This is that rarity, a work of genius that's also accessible in all the right ways: hilarious, touching, cutting, thought-provoking and beautifully written, breathtakingly so at times. But fear not: the romance is constantly sauced with the simian hero's outrageous, turd-slinging wise-cracks and put-downs. Cheeta speaks in a lovely blend of street wisdom and naïve poetry that makes you want to listen to him for much longer than the book lasts. And his racy, piquant subject matter is utterly intriguing!
The brilliance here lies in several layers, beginning with the very idea of a celebrity chimp telling his tale in a mind-boggling combination of natural history (Cheeta's self-awareness leads to many "you'll know this from National Geographic" ... Read More:

I really enjoyed this and am disappointed to read the other review giving it one star.
I love autobiographies and will read anyone's but I do like James Martin and enjoy watching him on Saturday Kitchen. I liked the style it was written in and couldn't put it down. He barely mentioned his stint on Strictly nor talked much about his ex-girlfriends and there are few photos of him (that aren't already on his website) so it's not a gossipy reveal-all kind of auto-biog. Though you get to read about all his chef working history and antics as a young lad growing up in North Yorks. It's full of anecdotes which I think makes a good biog rather than having to rely on the specific details of what they did and when.
This book is a very influential read and lives up to it's purpose.
Mary-Kate and Ashley have done a great job interviewing the featured people and the books design is very nice. The book has a lot of interesting quotes and it was nice to get an insight into the lives of how the true "originals" grew up and got started in their fields (Karl Largerfeld, Lauren Hutton and Diana von Frustenberg to name a few).
A couple of not so good things: the book is very repetitive, but i guess i was expecting that.

This book would make a great gift to anyone interested in the "Olsen twins" but it also could cater to a much broader audience weather your a 40 year old woman or a 19 year old boy. It would also make a great coffee table book.

I write this in late 2008 as the global financial system goes into meltdown and the credit crunch is really biting into our individual pockets. What Nella Last would make of our sickeningly materialistic, wasteful, 'spend spend spend' times I cannot imagine!
On a domestic level we could all learn a lot from Nella's money-saving, waste-avoiding methods. Her descriptions of the meals she contrives are fascinating, and her make-do-and-mend philosophy would put us all to shame.
Aside from the domestic detail, Nella writes movingly about her thoughts and feelings as a wife and mother living through a second war, and especially about the changing role of women and her own sense of liberation through war work.
This should be be required reading for everyone lucky enough ... Read More:

Slash's autobiography, appropriately called `Slash', is a brilliant read. It's been a while since I've read such a captivating, moving and truly insane autobiography. Now it's not like me to say this, but it's so good it nearly eclipses the WWE wrestler's autobiographies - yeah, it really is that good (those of you who've read the wrestler's autobiographies will understand where I'm coming from).
Slash tells you, in great detail, about all of the main aspects of his life - his parents, what his family were like, his upbringing - the highs and lows of it - and his rise to fame. It's a really entertaining read, funny at times, sad and shocking at others. Enjoy the highs and lows, the goods and bads, of the long haired legend, the real life Guitar Hero, Saul Hudson, who we all know

really enjoyed this account of a fascinating individual. His sheer guts and determination is matched only by that of his wife who clearly supported him through the most difficult period of his life. It brings 'the hamster' into the heart of the reader.
