What a great book to read.
I have never read a book that had made me laugh out loud so much but also cry as well. I loved this book and would esp recommend it for dog lovers.

If you're a fan this is an absolute must. I think anyone whether a fan or not would be intruiged to get inside the head of Em and you really feel you can with this book.
Before I bought it I thought it would be a basic story of his life but I was so pleased to find out that it's not like that at all. Most people who would call themselves a fan know his story pretty much backwards and if that's all you want you can find it in a million places on the internet.
This is so much more than that though. He really explains his feelings and thoughts throughout major events in his life. It's not at all contrived and it really is as though he's speaking directly to you. The writing itself ... Read More:

I have been buying Heat since 2000 and have watched in amazement as a Channel 4 programme called Big Brother and a little known listings mag called Heat changed celebrity culture as we know it. Heat is largely responsible for this seismic change to noughties pop culture and if you want to blame someone, blame Mark Frith.
I couldn't wait to buy this book and I haven't been disappointed. It's a fascinating pop history of Britain in the noughties, starting from when Spice Girls were accessible and chummy, and from when the jury was still out on Big Brother 1. Its weird hearing the names of former BB contestants and remembering when they were red hot and the interviews that everyone wanted. Yet in typical"famous for fifteen minutes" fashion, ... Read More:

With the release of Jordan's third auto-biography (following on from 'Making a Clean Breast of Things') some people will probably feel that serialisation of her life has indeed been 'Pushed to the Limit'. I shall have to respectfully disagree, however. This book has more wonderful insights into her multi-faceted career- from her early work as a page-three girl to her forays into politics and music. Perhaps most enlightening of all, however, is the account of her recent work as a novelist.
Although critical acclaim for the book 'Crystal' was not as universally forthcoming as she might have hoped, there are many who regard it as being one of the most 'distinctive' examples of contemporary literature since the publication of 'Swan' by Naomi Campbell. ... Read More:

If you are thinking of buying this because you want to hear ricks life story then your wasting your cash.
This book is a collection of short stories from his life in music from about the age of 14.
The only moan i have is that its a bit short, i did the complete book in two evenings and im not what you would call a fast reader.
But with chaptor titles like "The tin bath tecnique and the small hours hooker" or "i've got che guevara in the shed" its well worth the read. If nothing else you will find a new use for a breeze block and a hotel towel.

This book is fantastic. Not a biography, not exactly a memoir, but instead a series of reflections of twenty years spent with Ol Big Ead himself. Clough was a one off - brilliant, impossible, bonkers, infuriating, despicable, loveable, untameable. He took a nothing provincial club and went and won the European Cup. Twice. Unbelieveable.
And this book does the man justice. Crucially, it also does Peter Taylor justice; describing their symbiotic partnership. It also brings back a real nostalgia for the times when footballers weren't pampered prima donnas earning £150k a week. They liked a pint, and a fag, when apprentices had to clean the pros boots, and the game was simpler, less bloated. And when there was room for real characters. And this is a ... Read More:

He takes the autobiography genre and makes it his own entirely. One of the newspaper quotes on the back says that he is one of the great originals - and this book shows that in it's content as much as the way that it's written.
The research, the physical, and mostly emotional effort and the amount of himself that he has poured into it is incredible.
Beyond the phenomenal honesty and integrity of his writing, the insight to his incredible life and unsurpassed brain is brilliant. Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time has "We journey into Hawking's universe, while marveling at his mind" on the front. I agreed with that at the time - this book and author deserve the title more.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It is very tempting to describe the book by what it is not, not autobiography, not a companion to "Sorry I haven't a clue", not about Jazz... Though I think anyone with an interest in these areas will enjoy it.
The book is quite literally a collection of rambling thoughts and reminiscences - which does not sound very appealing. But Humphs love of language and music shine though continually, and it flows along in a delightful manner.
While his achievements in Jazz and Comedy are well known, Humph's journalism successes are perhaps less well known - and in my opinion his abilities as a writer are every bit as great, and that shines from the pages of this book. I really think anyone with a sense of humour will like it - a smile on every page!
