If I was restricted to choosing just one reference book relating to the flora and fauna of Britain, this one would easily win hands down. I find the multitude of beautiful photographs and illustrations provide not just a magnificent visual treat in themselves, but absolutely brilliant in aiding identification of the variety of life forms to be found in and around our countryside. The text is clear, concise and extremely interesting and enhances this fascinating presentation.

That one can find such a treasure discounted is greatly added bonus.

RSPB and DK are to be very highly commended for this masterpiece!

There's an entire genre of 'moving to the countryside' books, what publisher's like to call settlement non-fiction. The books are normally written to commission, it's a genre I had never explored or read before I wrote my own book, which I suppose I have to now admit, belongs in some way to this genre.

This is clearly one, and I haven't read it. So I who I am I to argue with the reviewers, hence the 5 stars.

But if you do read this book, then try A PLACE IN MY COUNTRY: In Search of a Rural Dream.

I'm biased, because I wrote it. Well and widely reviewed, it is sinking like a stone; there you go.

Perhaps the best is The Engima of Arrival by V.S Naipaul, luckily a book I only read after I had finished ... Read More:

Of all EFT books that I have come across, I have found this to be the best! As a practitioner and trainer myself, if I was to write an book on EFT (and being a published author, though in a different field, I have seriously considered the idea), Helena Fone's EFT for Dummies would have definitely come on top (I am almost jealous!).
Clear, detailed, comprehensive, practical - like other books in the series, this is an invaluable reference for both a novice and an experienced EFTer, and if you have only one EFT book in your library, it should be this one!

Quite a good book for the beginner. I refer to it still after setting up my tank successfully and my fish are thriving. The book is quick and to the point giving you concise information for quick decision and reference. It is not an in-depth reference for all marine setups. The writer seems to know his stuff and tells you some things that other books and aquarists will tell you are wrong but i have had no probs. I have bought other books with a lot more information in but this is just as good for the beginner or if you want to know the pitfalls associated with keeping marine fish before spending all your money and finding out its not for you.

Torey Hayden receives another child for her already full "Crazies" class. Children in her class are those which can't be placed elsewhere. Sheila comes from the migrant camp, she'd been abandonned by mother by the side of a highway. Torey works hard to reach into the troubled six year old, gain her trust and educate her. A difficult journey for both teacher and child but one that would leave all but the hardest of hearts unmoved.

For many years, as fossil plants emerged from the rocks, it was believed that these records reflected changes in climate. Plants, it was assumed, had to adapt to variations in weather and other conditions. According to Beerling, plant life was instead the major prompter of climate change. The balance of atmospheric gases was determined by the micro-organisms floating in the seas. The ability to absorb carbon dioxide, coupled with the use of sunlight to convert that into nutrients gives plants the power to shift gas quantities. During the early days, plants exhaled oxygen. It was poison to most organisms, but those capable of using it began the drive leading to today's life. In this useful survey of all the forces forming today's world, Beerling traces ... Read More:
