This is the single most useful resource available to people doing A2 OCR biology and I highly recommend it. The textbook assigned (Biology 2) is designed to cover all students aiming from A-E whereas this book is for students with higher capabilities, more in the A-b range. My teacher uses this book over Biology 2 and its always fun to enter a lesson and know every word that is going to come out his mouth.

I am a master's student working in the cancer bioscience area of R & D. This book is excellent in all respects and I highly recommend it. I have seen other publications from this author in scientific journals and all are well written and informative and he has a very good reputation among scientists in the field. Chapters are intuitively structured and complete - figures are clear and enhance the text and the CD ROM has some great features including key figures in ppt format and audio lectures on specifics such as P53, metastases and molecular therapies. If you are starting out don't be put off by the depth of this book it takes you through the concepts in a clear and structured manor. I wish I had this book 3 years ago!!

This book is a true inspiration to all garden lovers and even those who are not yet addicted to plants and gardens. It's well researched, easy to read and understand and with beautiful illustrations (especially those by Marianne North) it's a perfect present. John and Mary Gribbin have the talent of bringing together the story of eleven flower hunters, without compromising the scientific facts, and have created a very interesting book in their usual accessible style. This has pride of place on my coffee table and is a very important addition to my collection of gardening and flower books. I'm looking forward to the next one!

I found this text brilliant for a module in my second year of a Biology degree; the information is concise and to the point, the multimedia disk is brilliant and the questions helped to prepare me for my exams and had me thinking more outside the box. There are many wonderful diagrams, but the CD reminds a student that cells are 3D, dynamic entities and not flat and lifeless on a page.

I have found this book to be a great help in deciphering many of the more obscure terms and phrases in psychology. Its well put together and easy to use and I have no doubt I will continue to refer to it in the future.

I had read some of the reviews that other people had posted on this website and was a bit dubious to how good thew book was as many mentioned having to use additional notes. However although i did have additional notes for the last couple of days before my Jan 2007 exam on Module 1 i used only this book and feel like i should easily get an A/B in the exam. Although i know of people of lesser ability in the class who felt the book was not as good at explaining things they needed to learn, for anyone like me who knows their stuff already and is just looking for a quick brain refresher this is an AMAZING book 11 out of 10.
By the way just got my results 15/03/2007 and i got an A: 100 out of 105. And i would largely put it down to this book... ... Read More: >>More Details |

I recall hearing Richard Mabey discussing this book on a radio show, before it was published and thinking its premise: collecting contibutors' personal experiences of British plant life, seemed rather uninspired. Surely this kind of thing has been done to death? Nature magazine columns have been filled for years with people writing accounts of things they have seen in the British countryside.
When it was published, I was further put off by the high price of the book. I was completely wrong on both counts, the price, when the size, scope and quality of the book are considered, seems more than reasonable.
