I only started reading this because I bought it for my husband for Xmas but once I started I couldn't put it down. I used to read music books when I was younger but stopped when I realised they were nearly always fan books. This isn't like that. It's obvious Mick Wall knows his stuff and has spoken to everyone including the band but he doesn't pull any punches. I don't know if the band will like it but they should because it's not only a great book about them but just a great book anyway. Utterly brilliant.

I bought this book on Saturday. It's Monday now and I've just finished it, which for me is very fast indeed, and a reflection on what a fascinating and well written book it is.
I heard the author talking about his travels and studies on BBC Radio 4 and thought his ideas about linguistics were interesting, but when I had a quick look at the book before I bought it I realised it was much more than an work about the theory of language. It's actually a rare combination of exciting adventure story, anthropology AND linguistics. The conclusions Everett reaches after 30 years of living amongst the Piraha people get right to the heart of what makes us who we are as human beings, and provide a fascinating insight into another way of life we would ... Alan is back on form with this wonderful novel. I found his last one (Love and Dr Devon) a bit naff (sorry Alan), but "Folly" was really lovely. Found it very hard to put down and I love happy endings. Can't wait for the next one!

Very enjoyable book, easy to pick up during your lunch breaks, allowing you to look at the 70's in rose tinted glasses. As someone born in '69 I could relate to most of the things in the book, but I do wish that they included Photos. This would have made a good book, fantastic.
From clothing, technology and crisps(he forgot to mention hedgehog flavour) its an enjoyable read for people in their 30s/40s. Now where is my Old Spice and Flares.

I was really looking forwards to this book, I am an avid reader of anything to do with Tudor history and the wars of the roses and as there is relatively little written on the early years of Henry VIII I was keen to discover more about his personality, his friendships, his marriage, his life and what made him into the tyrant most people recognise him as. Starkey's introduction was promising, I was chomping at the bit to get into this book, but it never really got going for me. Maybe I have read too much on the subject and it was all old news to me, there were little nuggets but no real meaty information.
It is possible, of course, that there is no documented evidence other than what Starkey bought to his book, or that he did not want to make any ... Read More:

I personally loved this book. It is not a particularly (if at all) 'intellectual' book - it is a romance and thriller novel that spans so many pages it manages to find itself wound up as a tome of a book.
Nevertheless, if you are going on a trip or find yourself needing something to read, give this a try. It is not as difficult as it may appear, and, quite fun!

I enjoy Richard Hammond and all he does. However I bought the Audio CD to listen to in the Car and i must say, there is a lot missing. To sum the Audio CD up, There is nothing about The Adventures With Evel. However the book is a much better read, not while your driving though !!!!!

This is a fantastic little book if you want ideas for rustic and seasonal foods. The complaints about not having certain recipes that were in the programme is kinda silly. If you were just interested in 2 recipes why buy the whole book?
If you like to friends coming over for a nice pot of something or to impress somebody with a lovely duck breast, this book is worth purchasing. The recipes are not complicated, although there are certain aspects you must follow to achieve the climax you want.

We simply refer to this book as 'The Food Bible'. I have used it constantly since starting to wean my daughter. She is now over one and I'm still getting my money's worth out of it. Some of the recipes have become family favourites! Simple, practical recipes which are tasty, what more could you ask. I found I picked about 5 or 6 from each age range and kept cooking batches, adapting to suit what i had in the cupboard, and to my daughters changing tastes. Good practical advice and a great starting point for weaning and cooking for a family.
