My son aged 10 is heavily into Dr Who and was dying to get this annual. He was impressed by this new one and found it both interesting and entertaining. Although a cheap gift he rated it above some of the PS2 games he was given!!! Would recommend this annual for any Dr Who fan.

Well once again Mr Horrowitz has outdone himself.I read to the middle then finished it off in 2 days. I couldnt wait to get my hands on this and as the others have said I wasnt disapointed either.

The title of this book makes quite a claim. Niall Ferguson is a Harvard University professor from the UK, who produced a volume on the story of the Rothschild financial dynasty in the late 1990s, The book certainly has a number of interesting features e.g. its summary of recent events both precipitating and within the housing market 'crisis' and international commercial relationships between superpowers. Nevertheless, the impression is that the work - fascinating though it is in parts - may just have been a little bit 'scraped together', somewhat hurried.

If you love reading to your child, do not miss this book.
It is a delightful, humourous,dream-like surreal book, with a repetitive, poetic, chanting story. It is (deservedly) a children's classic. Many reviewers here have tried to break down the different elements of this book. What I would like to convey is the whole experience of reading the book which teaches a simple life experience to a child - which is highly spiritual, particularly the last pages where a riot of colour is the world through the eyes of a butterfly. I love buying these kinds of books for presents - you can read them first before wrapping-up! I bought this along with a Joined-Up Thinking by Colgan (Stephen Fry gave a quote on the front cover) and both books entertained me hugely on these cold, wet, darker days. great stuff.

I enjoyed this book but I agree with some people that there could have been far more substance to it. As Girls Aloud have said though there is alot that had to be left out due to their younger fans. It is an enjoyable read though and it is interesting to see that we think of them as being very manufactured yet this book describes how they were pretty much left to find their own way without much help and guidance.

Jacqueline Wilson's stories deal with some very sensitive topics and they're fun to read, too, which is why I read 'Cookie' within a few days of its publication. As a teacher, I was hoping to use it as the basis for a classroom discussion with a group of Year 6s on some of the issues that the book brings up.
In the end I couldn't use it. The book seems to be aimed at much younger children, and the story doesn't fit together properly. When Beauty Cookson's mum realises that Beauty is being bullied over her appearance by her classmates, as well as by her vicious dad, she decides that she will teach Beauty how to bake cookies so that she can share them at school and subtly persuade the bullies to give her a new nickname - Cookie instead of Ugly. Carra writes as he plays his football. Honest, uncomprimising, blunt, confident & not afraid to share his opinions.
He is in a unique position as he was brought up in a tough working class area as a die hard blue but went through a slow & difficult transition from a blue to someone who is now totally committed to the cause of the reds. He is honest in his assessment of his greater loyalty to Liverpool over England notwithstanding his total committment to the national side when donning the three lions shirt.
