In the 2nd edition of his already excellent guidebook L. Mitchell has given a considerably enlarged, significantly improved and fully updated story about the country where I work as a licensed tourist guide and therefore I thought I knew it best.

To my surprise, I was able to discover in this book not only a great deal of practical information mainly useful for visitors and tourists alike, but also some really amazing, less known and unfamiliar stories about the country and its people.

The 2nd edition included expanded coverage on various background topics, such as Serbian cinema, literature and music, with boxes on Serbian personalities in these fields (for instance, Emir Kusturica or Ceca, an extravagant Balkan ... Read More:

Excellent guide to the whole of Belarus. Detailed in every way from the best sights to see to which bar to drink in. Many personal stories are included in the book as the author has clearly visited more than once. Good history snippets too such as World war two and Chernobyl. So why not 5/5? Unfortunately all street names and even Metro stations are translated into English. Sadly a bit of schoolboy error and anyone whose been to Belarus will know you have to have maps & street names in Cyrillic. Still the best guide to Belarus though... reprint two will need Cyrillic names though!

The second (October 2006) edition of Tibet, the Bradt Travel Guide, is a welcome updating and expansion of the guidebook first published three years ago.

Michael Buckley has been writing guidebooks to Tibet for over twenty years, and brings a thoughtful maturity to the subject that is distinctive and invaluable.

I would recommend this book as the first and best to read before a visit to Tibet.

I have read every guidebook to Tibet published in recent years and have visited Tibet a dozen times. Michael's book is distinctive in having an attractive, easy style, speaking as though one traveller to another. He is never patronizing or pompous, he does not pretend to know what he doesn't know, and he does not ... Read More:

I ordered this book after using the smaller Bradt Guide to Lille on a recent trip to France. I understand the comment from the reader who complained that this is not a regular guide book with all the restaurants in the whole city kept in one chapter and all the hotels in another chapter. I reckon that for a daytripper or someone just passing through in a hurry this could be inconvenient. But I don't think that this book is for those people. It takes the city and turns it into a group of different neighbourhoods. Each district becomes a village destination in its own right, so it explores the sights and restaurants on your hotel's doorstep. I will test it out on my next trip. But the success of the smaller Lille book was showing me round a neighbourhood ... Read More:
