I bought this book for my nephew who doesn't read (his mother said, grumpily).
Well, he read this. I gather he was heard chuckling out loud and was happy to let his sisters hog the computer, something that had never happened before. He was even apparently quoting from it in the car to and from school and boasted that he'd managed to impress his form teacher with some facts she wasn't aware of. From being the aunt who sometimes feels she buys the dullest presents, I gather I've rather gone up in the ratings... so I've ordered the other books in the series for my two nieces for Christmas. She's the target audience, right? I'm a huge fan of Donaldson/Scheffler books, but this one isn't much fun to read aloud - for me! my daughter thinks it's great. She'd more or less memorised it in a couple of readings. I have already come to dread the repetition ('Come little monkey, come come come') and am frustrated by both the idiot butterfly and the ungrateful monkey. You can confidently go ahead and buy this book for your toddler to enjoy, but you may not have as good a time along with her.

I bought these for my two year old who is a recent In The Night Garden fan. They are fantastic. Admittedly the box arrived a bit worse for wear (I am in Australia) but it still holds the books when it needs to. My daughter carries the books everywhere. Stops, sits down to read them, waves them around in one hand, lines them up to count to 6 or turns them over to complete the puzzle on the back. For a few dollars she has had hours of fun already. Highly recommend!

My 7 year old son loves audio books and we have lots! He likes King Arthur tales but they can often be quite difficult to read and understand. However this is read brilliantly and we have both been gripped. Admittedly I have quite often had to pause it and explain parts but it is read in chapters which gives you convenient places to recap. We have listened travelling to and from school and for 3 nights we sat in the car on the drive listening to see what happens. This is a great next step if they are getting a little to old for 'Stories for 5/6/7 year olds" audio books. It really is great. Buy it!

This is a wonderful christmas however old you are! It is my son's first christmas this year, and I have just bought this to read to him, as he loves having stories read to him. I have both the Snowman and Father Christmas in this format, and the gorgeous pictures taken directly from the film are beautiful, and the words are fantastic, and it is so easy to read. Any child will love having this lovely christmas tale read to them, and I am sure parents will adore reading it to their little ones, watching their faces when they hear about what Father Christmas gets up to on Christmas Eve!

I thought that the Jolly Postman couldn't be beaten, but this wins hands down. Absolutely brilliant read, great rhymes, 'interactive' in the sense that the children get to open the letters themselves. Recommended without a doubt. My children love it!

A great book for fun activities all year round. As soon as i saw it in the bookshop i loved it, and still do to this day, love it, love it, love it!If you like this but want something even better, try the great big glorius book for girls. By the way, i LOVE the illustrations!

This is such a fun story. I have even used it on a teddy bear's picnic, getting the children to act out each part eventually finding a rather large teddy bear. Children of all ages love it.

Everyone who has read the Harry Potter series knows how fun, interesting and addictive it is to read, so the seventh book is essential for those who have dabbled in the others. Possibly the most engaging book of them all, this last edition takes a different style into what would be Harry's final year at Hogwarts. The sixth book was said to be dark but it is in the seventh that great change happens. The plot deepends enormously as do the characters, who have grown up so much since their first days. J.K. Rowling is a gift to children and adults alike. Conclusion: essential reading if you have read the others, although really that goes without saying!
