I have often been critical of Iggulden's work - especially this recent series. However, that criticism has been stopped dead in its tracks. This is a stunning book, and perhaps one of the best I've ever read.

Iggulden has finally worked out what he is so good at - describing battles in a breathless and uncompromising fashion. Most of this book is a series of tremedous battles/sieges - and when he does come out of this, he keeps the less interesting interludes brief and concise. One teeny observation which does annoy me - his total fixation with one word - "wince". Surely he can find a substitute for it!

As I have said before, Iggulden will never be a writer of great sophistication, nor will he be a conveyor of intricate ... Read More:

Arctic Drift has a lot to recommend it (if you don't get jammed up with Kindle pricing). The plot is an imaginative one about the potential risks to peace and economic stability with the world running out of energy while the ice caps are being melted down by global warming as a greedy billionaire seeks to manipulate the situation to his own advantage (much as Enron did during the electricity shortage in the West a few years ago). Dirk gets out and under the sea to have some unusual adventures which include a most unusual battle. There is a great series of cliff hangers as men's lives are at risk in perilous conditions. Dirk, Jr. and Summer also have some exciting adventures. The story also features a merciless killer who likes to make ... Read More:

This book really gets into the workings of the appeals process and the politics involved in elections within the Supreme Court in the USA. A page turner? Only if you are looking for the story to spark into life and grab you by the collar and shake you senseless and it's when you hit the author's note that you realise that will not happen in this book. Maybe I have come to expect too much from the auhtor but I felt this book lacked a cutting edge that in parts made it tedious and quite boring.

I really enjoyed this book. It has everything a good chick lit novel should have, a lovable heroine, a guy your desperate for her to be with and lots of funny and weepy moments. A really original fun read that will keep you up late at night turning the pages.

I really enjoyed this book, I think that many of Cecilia Ahern's books have an element of the fairytale in them and I think that you have to accept that before you begin. The characters are really well developed and the fact that you want to see what happens when the two protagonists meet means that you keep turning the pages. Really good book.

The fact that Harry Bosch was about to meet Michael Haller was heavily advertised, leaving the author's many fans anticipating another great book from one of the best crime writers currently at the top of his game.

This book hits the spot. I thought 'The Lincoln Lawyer' brought an exciting and intriguing new character in the form of the lawyer, Mickey Haller to the front line. Connelly repeats this and the added bonus of pulling Harry Bosch into the equation is masterful.

We thus get the best of both worlds for crime/thriller fans with an excellent courtroom drama from Haller together with the dogged detective work from Bosch leading us to an ending which is both surprising and satisfying.

The book does stand alone but it does ... Read More:

I decided to buy this book after reading the magnificent 'The Forgotten Garden' by the same author. I had missed all the hype when it was on the Richard & Judy book list.

I found this a really good read, I liked the way that it was created through a series of flashbacks experienced by Grace, a housekeeper in the House At Riverton in the 1920's, as she draws together her memoirs for her grandson, an author.

Telling the story of the family who lived in the House it talks throughout of the death of a famous poet at the house during a family party and makes clear from the start that the book will seek to answer the questions surrounding his death. And the book does this magnificently, if a little crammed into the last few chapters.

I got this book to read while on holiday and i have to say that i had it read within the first to days. I couldnt put it down! from the first page i was desperate to find out what happened to Lewis.

Lewis, the main character, is not the average hero of a novel as he is difficult to like and is troubled but when you start reading about his life and what he goes through you cannot help but feel symptathy for him. His hopeless father and his step mother who tried far to hard. While this is a very disturbing read as all of the characters have their own troubles in the book, the story captivates the reader and dosent let go until well after the last page has been read.

i strongly recommend this read, it is uplifting and makes people believe that love can ... Read More:

A good effort - from my limited experience of Bond books, I can't really tell this apart from one. The plot is interesting and perilous and goes places bond never went before (e.g. the Soviet Union and Persia). It also has all most of the ingredients in the right proportions (girls, guns & glamour), which make for a good action adventure, without lapsing into cliche.

A word on the narrator. Jeremy Northam isn't as good as Rufus Sewell is on the other Bond audio books, but is clear and slightly edgy which make for a well spoken and not dull voice, even if it is not overly brimming with character at times...

My one criticism is that the text is a little crude at various points, which I know the Bond books can be, but this one seemed unnecessarily lecherous ... Read More:
