It's inspiring and very well written, and the illustrations are of outstanding quality. Mattesi doesn't simple teach you how to give life and power to your drawings (as well as correct common technical mistakes): he makes you change the way you look at reality and drawings. Whoever you are, whatever your job is (painter, comic artist, illustrator or animator) this book will surprise and help you. When it finally reached my door step, this book made my day.
If your a big fan of future/alternative history, concept art work or cars, you'll love this book, 170 luscious pages of art work and lore, usually reserved for the likes of hard sci-fi books. Beyond the obviously technical quality of the designs looms a new aesthetic that I doubt would remain purely conceptual for long... As always Brian Froud reveals to be one of the best! This book has lots of wonderful illustrations as he always does and all of them in one book, it's perfect! He tells and 'teaches' you lots of things from the faery realm. I've seen some of these drawings and paintings in other book, so if you already own some of them try a second opinion.

I am very impressed by the book's quality. Beautiful examples nicely explained, the layout and colour of the book itself all reflecting the author's ideas quite well. I like this book more than just as my study material.

This book contains a great wealth of knowledge that I wish I'd read a year ago when I was still a student. I studied computer science rather than design and am a software developer but I still found this book highly compelling and informative.

- I highly recommend this book. It covers a wide range of 'alternative' products, from day to day household items, furniture, modes of transport, to the latest solar pv panels. The main part of the book features brief product descriptions with accompanying photographs, followed by contact details of the designers/distributors. A book for dipping into. A source of inspiration and ideas and, dare I say it, a guiding light for a more sustainable future. I wanted to see what this book looked like inside before I bought it but was unable too but I wasn't disappointed when it arrived. I bought this for my 12 year old son. It is full on every page of screen shots and sketches/ digital picture, small history section, 3D modeling etc all in full colour for £10. Nicely laid out in small sections it's not overladen with text, you can pick it up and read different sections at a time. Definitely recommended for young teenage boys interested in the games industry and want to know a little bit more about what goes on into making their games a reality.
