This is a book that leaves you feeling so uplifted. It makes you want to do something more in life.It is so beautifully written, and O'Donohue has some of his own poems in there. One is called the Blessing of Presence it's just lovely to read. One passage will stay with me, it goes as follows."If you have everything the world has to offer you, but you do not have love, then you are the poorest of the poorest of the poor. How true. This is a remarkable book. It was so sad to learn of O'Donohue's sudden death in jan of this year aged 52, he died in his sleep.

For anyone who's ever scratched their heads trying to make sense of the bible, this is the book for you.
David Pawson's clear, easy to follow, erudite prose opens up the bible. He doesn't pretend the bible is a simple document, but does shine a light on the text to make it easier to get to grips with.
The book is filled with examples and stories, and it also tracks Pawson's own journey in trying to understand scripture.
There's a great explanation of "Song of Songs", which Pawson says he avoided for years because it just seemed to be too carnal: about the sexual relationship between a man and a woman. To find out his refreshing conclusion about the Song of Solomon, buy this book!

My new father-in-law bought this for us when we married last month and, though I don't myself share the Christian background John O'Donohue's writings clearly spring from, I'm finding it a very subtle, touching book. The sentiments are sincere and tangibly deeply felt, the words carefully and very skilfully chosen to open up a topic and expose it to fresh, revealing light. Has made me re-view a few things, anyway! One of the other customer reviews compares the style to a greetings card but, though I'm not entirely comfortable with organised religion myself, and though I concede this is hardly T S Eliot, I do think that that reviewer may just have an issue with people so uninhibitedly expressing a spirituality that they don't value.

I have been a christian for about 25 years and have belonged to various denominations over that time, including AOG, Methodist, Anglican, House Church and now an Elim Pentecostal and have gained many insights in all of these churches, but never have I heard the message of grace explained in this way,(or maybe I just wasn't listening)! This book, in the words of a famous beer advert, reaches the parts that others have not. It has opened up parts of myself that I would never have looked at,such as how legalistic I am,( and me a pentecostal!) but for some reason the way this is written has drawn me in to explore grace in a frightening but liberating way, To open up to God's grace for myself and start to receive what He has for me, not just my own small ideas. ... There are many books written on religion at the moment. What struck me about this book in contrast to 'God supplanting' books is that it is very gently and reasonably written. It is free from polemic and vitriol. Although I do not necessarily agree with everything this Pope says he is certainly a great rational man and a good man.It is not always easy to write an interesting book about Jesus - there must be more books written on him than anyone else for a start. However, I found that this book was always interesting and frequenly insightful. Benedict is clearly an outstanding scholar. What was also remarkable is that he can give an account of perspectives that he doesn't necessarily agree with but he can do this in a calm and inoffensive manner.
Here we see glimpses of Einstein the man, not the scientist. As science moved further away from the ideal that it was supposed to benefit mankind in a positive way, Einstein believed the mission of science was to work for mankind's well-being. He will be sadly missed, a great man that thought with his heart as well as his head.
