We have decided that from now on we're only going to visit places that have a Sprial Guide written about them - they have become indispensible to us over the past few years - Barcelona, Venice, Florence and now Paris. There's just the right mix of travellers' tips, interesting facts about the place, good up-to-date information re opening times, prices etc. The maps are suberb (though why does the street we're on always land on a join?!). And the best thing of all is the SPIRAL!! - No losing your place when the book shuts itself, no broken spines, no need for a bookmark - Genius!!

I used this map to plan a short trip around the Seine Valley and I wasn't disappointed. All medieval churches, abbeys, ruins, chateaux (both open and closed to the public), national parks and scenic routes are clearly marked. The most useful feature, however, is that the name of any town or village of tourist interest is underlined in red. This led us to some charming locations which we'd have otherwise overlooked.
The only problem with this map is that it is too big to unfold. For our holiday a smaller map of Seine Maritime would have been adequate, and for driving a ring-bound road atlas would have been much more usable. Still, for planning, this was the best tool.

A cheaper book, by comparision to some of the others, and it shows.
Some useful tips, and it covers each area by region. But not enough detailed information for me, and as a result I am ordering another (different!) guide.
I found this one a bit vague, and didnt really tell me enough useful information about DR to make me feel confident about going.
