Tolle explains clearly and simply why unhappiness and negativity can be so much part of our lives, and how to cease identifying with those instincts, which are essentially conditioned reflex reactions.
He offers a new way to react - or rather NOT to have knee-jerk reactions to things that come up in our daily lives - and to notice the negative and possibly destructive behaviour we slip into....and to notice it.
Once we start to notice the way we react to the meaningless things that annoy us every day as well as learning how to accept the larger pain and disasters that also arise, you begin to see exactly how over time we can all move forward together as a more concious species than we are now!
I read a review of this book in a local newspaper and ordered it immediately. I wasn't disappointed. Considering that Ms Bryne is dyslexic and barely able to read and write, it is remarkably well written. The Plain English Campaign would be proud of it! The book combines an autobiographical account of her life (she was born in 1954), with myriad mystical and spiritual experiences, mainly with angels. I found it very inspiring and hopeful. I have read various features about Lorna Bryne, and also watched a clip from a TV interview. Everyone remarks upon her simplicity and innocence. Suspend your disbelief and buy this book. You will get something out of it, I am sure of that. Unmissable!

I have had this book approx 2 years and it one of the most significant books that i own and has made a difference to my life.
Jon Kabat Zinn writes beautifully and with inspiration, the book is in accessible chapters. I personally prefer to read a chapter and then put the book down to establish and reflect on what I have learned. It is quite a lengthy book, but for me it was well worth the effort to read it all and I have certainly benefitted from the practice of meditation and yoga which are now an established practice in my life.
I particularly benefitted from learning about the breath and simply 'being' rather than 'doing' as I was often in a rush and under pressure and stress, now I am finally learning to slow things down and enjoy ... Read More:

The Prophet is about a mysterious religious thinker who is about to leave for his native land. Before he goes, many people have just one question to ask him. In a very few words, he tells them his accumulated wisdom primarily in a nondenominational way. The only exceptions come in the references to rebirth. The essence of each brief lesson is that we have to step outside of our own perspective to see things in the way that God does and wants us to.
Let me give you an example. When someone transgresses either man's laws or God's laws, we tend to condemn the person harshly and focus on punishment. This is like treating the person as though they have fallen below some level of what it is still to be human. Yet no one does anything worse than what some person has done ... Read More:

I read about Erickson as the pioneer of NLP, and his work in hypnosis and psychotherapy and was intrigued. This book is a great introduction to Erickson. His style of communication which involves the use of skilfully vague language patterns, rapport skills, and conversational hypnosis techniques, forms the basis of the Milton Model in NLP.
These stories are case studies, people with all sorts of problems, and very interesting solutions, and great stories.
This guy is a genius. From bedwetting to alcoholism, to repression, I was particularly inspired by a very short story about the Turmahara Indians, and how knowing and thinking about their special abilities can increase your energy levels. If it works for me, it might work for you.
Please allow me to share with you how "The Secret" changed my life and in a very real and substantive way allowed me to overcome a severe crisis in my personal life. It is well known that the premise of "The Secret" is the science of attracting the things in life that you desire and need and in removing from your life those things that you don't want. Before finding this book, I knew nothing of these principles, the process of positive visualization, and had actually engaged in reckless behaviors to the point of endangering my own life and wellbeing.
At age 36, I found myself in a medium security prison serving 3-5 years for destruction of government property and public intoxication. This was stiff punishment for drunkenly defecating in a mailbox but as the judge pointed out, ... Read More:

Somehow I identified with all of the life-traps and so therapy beckons? The more I read the more any optimism I'd held began to evapourate. Hopefully though anyone who wishes to adopt the steps to change their lives has fewer schemas than I, even with one life-trap it would take grinding hard work to escape from it. However, nothing worthwhile came easy, so keep expectations low and success will come your way. An interesting view into our behaviours and their origins.

This book is fabulous and beautifully created; opening it feels like catching a glimpse of someone's diary or sketchbook. Most of all it demystifies creativity and makes you believe that with nothing more than some blank paper and a pen you can make art. It is well worth a read if you would like to see the world in a different way and add a little quirkiness and individuality to your life. Buy it, read it, complete the challenges. Give it a go, there is nothing to lose
