I rented this from the library and read it within a few days. I rarely read for too long in a day, but this was one of those books I literally couldn't put down.
Things such as the way in which Terri describes how she knew exactly when she was "three quarters manic" were very insightful, as was her brutual honesty, which could be compared to that of Elizabeth Wurtzel, in the way that there is no attempt made to make herself look good. It's all honest, bare and at times disturbing, which I found makes her more of an inspiration.
My only complaint is that it tends to jump around a lot, having no timeline, so it gets a bit confusing as to when these things happened in relation to eachother.
All in all, I'd certainly reccomened ... Read More:

I know that I will be in a minority here, but I really disliked the style of this book which is faux naive, hipper than thou,I dont give a damn, punctuationless and stream of consciousness.Very often phrases are repeated ad nauseum for emphasis, like the lyrics of some gloomy old rock song,a cheap and hackneyed device.
I don't know whether Leonard is supposed to be real or not, whether this was a roman a clef, but even if Leonard is real he felt like too much even for this book.
I also simply could not believe that Allison's parents weren't more worried about her safety after meeting Leonard. Also, that if Leonard were so paternal he would get Frey to be some kind of criminal gofer for him.
There is a tedious druggy feel to the book, ... Read More:

I read this book and found it so unbelievable that I did not believe it. It just did not ring true to me at all.
I agree with the grandmother who said'It belongs in the fiction section'.

What I liked about this book was the fact that Lindsey never seemed to speak about Paul with sadness. I thought it was very brave of her to write about her time with Paul after everything they both went through, along with their families. I also believe that books like these can make us realise that we should never take for granted all the good things in our lives, as we can easily lose them. This is probably one of the most touching books I have, and ever will read, and I wish Lindsey and Evie-Rose all the best in the future.

before you start reading this book, otherwise your nerves would be in pieces before the end of it. It is a frightening and disturbing read and has you on the edge of your seat willing her to stay away time and again. There can`t be many people on this earth as cruel and sadistic as the wests, and the fact that two of them actually met and married one another is creepy. Caroline, you don`t need me to tell you i`m sure, but you are one very lucky girl. Your guardian angel was surely with you back then. God bless you, stay safe. x

This has to be one of the saddest books I have read - yet it is so compelling.
Vanessa has helped me through some hard times and it is hard to believe after reading her book that she is the down to earth wonderful person she is.
This book made me cry and feel angered at the same time. You need to set aside a weekend to read it, as you won't put it down!

It was only after I'd bought this book that I heard it was apparently not true, so whether or not it is, I read the book as a piece of fiction. And, as such, it really works. Frey's style of writing is at times strange but always works well to express the inner thoughts of the 'character' of James and his construction of his fellow patients adds an extra depth to the story. I also believe one of the most charming parts of the narrative is his romance with Lilly, which I think was one of the main reasons that I kept reading.
Admittedly, I believe that it worked so well as fiction because there were a number of parts of the book which to me appeared too far-fetched to be true, particularly within the last two or three chapters. However, if you're willing to ... Read More:
