In a world where most people don't give each other the time of day it is great to see groups of strangers giving two random men time for a sit down and a talk with their name being the only thing they have in common.
I read this book in a day while waiting for my plane to arrive and found myself close to tears at points because it was so funny. The idea of travelling around the world to meet people with the same name as you, its briliant and I'm jealous that I didn't think of it first.
I also enjoyed the way the book is written by both Dave and Danny and you get both of their sides on everything, it's funny to hear that Danny is the voice of reason in this book even though I've read Join Me which is equally good if ... Read More:

It's a good starting point for planning your trip and prioritize what you would like to see. There is so much to see and do that everything is not possible over a short period of time and the guide is just perfect to give you an idea of the best not to miss attractions. Do not rely on the few accomodation listings provided though, as some further research will def be necessary (especially in the peak season)when most places are booked.

I felt like I was reading a series of articles (well that's what Tremlett does for his day job!) rather than a book, so I never really got into it. I tried a couple of times, but I have to say I never finished the book - at about the 1/2 way mark I used it to raise my reading lamp and that's where it remains.

The Cities Book is a wonderfull brief look at 200 cities around the world. As I go on 5-6 city trips a year I have found it invaluable as a quick quide to where to visit next. But oh dear, there are so many mistakes here. Both descriptions of cities, misnamed photos, innacurate statistics. Did no one ever proof read this book. Please Lonely Planet, send me the next one and I'll do it for free!

I think its the Daily Mail who describe this book as 'hilarious' - but its far from that I can assure you. I was expecting a lighthearted jaunt around the NZ islands but instead got the cynical ramblings from someone who has very little good to say about the country he has made his home for many years. I ploughed through it though and it was worth it when I did come across the funny bit just a chapter or so from the end. So if you're after a book to advise you on all the negative things to look out for then this is just the job, otherwise best avoided I think.....

This is simply a fantastic book, very humourous. It is split into very short chapters which are on a particular subject eg thanksgiving, the mysteries of christmas, junk food heaven. The author explains how Americans think about loads of different subjects which is quite enlightening. You may think because we share a language they are the same but from the descriptions in this book they are definitely not.
The book is written in an extremely easy way to read and I read it in a few days. I love America, well Orlando to be exact as the book clearly illustrates each state is quite unique.
Very entertaining and I can definitely recommend it.
