This is my first PMC book and a great way to start!! Written like a real 'squaddie'. Be prepared to be shocked with some of the thoughts and stories of the writer...but be prepared to laugh as well !! Simon I shake your hand.

Ann Rule offers a comprehensive insight into events as they unforded when one of the worlds most prolific serial killers, Ted Bundy committed his terrible crimes and was eventually brought to justice. It does make it more interesting that Rule was a personal friend of Ted Bundy, but in my opinion, it also makes it more distasteful. Rule did eventually accept that Bundy was guilty, but she appeared to take an awful lot of persuading. There were only a few brief moments when Rule appeared to comprehend exactly how ghastly and horrific Bundy's crimes were, (a look at photos of crime scenes was one of these) and generally she seemed to hold the steadfast opinion that there was a great possiblity that Bundy was innocent. Perhaps others would find ... Read More:

Funny if you know how to take it. Some people don't realise that although small embellishments do make this a bit more readable. This guy knows how to shock and provides exactly what the crowd wants- plenty of blood and guts.

I really enjoyed this book. If you're the kind of person who enjoys forensic thrillers you'll love this. He gives you a lot of fascinating information about some infamous murders and the poisons used but in a very readable way. It's not scientific and impenetrable! A must for murder mystery fans.

This is supposed to be a book about a family of executioners but is just an unimaginative and monotonous litany of executions by three hangmen who happen to be from the same family.
If, like me, you are hoping to learn what motivated these family members, what shaped their beliefs and how the family members ineracted with each other and their world then forget it. We learn next to nothing about them as people. Instead we get around 280 pages of short and mind-numbingly dull accounts of the last moments of various murderers, war criminals and traitors. It has no ethical standpoint either for or against its subject matter and there is little to suggest that the author has the imagination to explore such arguments.
Ferris is well liked and respected in scotland (im originally from dumbarton so qualified to say so)This is a good read, although given the material it should be.However where it is let down is Mckays inept and contradictory writing.Read more than one of Mckays books and his stories change.2 examples. In this book blind jonah loses his eye after a drunk throws a glass in a bar and hits him in the face , however in TC Campbells book he loses the same eye in a gang fight.Example 2 the Arthur Thompson ,KRAY twin story goes from being "undoubtedly untrue" in this book , to "this definetely happened"in the Last godfather.Ferris credibility would be better served getting a more skilled co author for his next book.

As a man obsessed with fictional and real Mafia tales, I felt compelled to buy this work.
Anyone who watched Goodfellas and read Wiseguy will be familiar with this tale. This book is somewhat disappointing, but it does at least finally bury the false positive image of Henry Hill as depicted in the movie; indeed his recent jailing only compounds the feeling.
The book does fill in some of the holes left in the tale by Wiseguy and the later Goodfellas. We are told for example why the names of James Burke and the Varios was changed for the film, and we are given more insight into the fate of Tommy DiSimone.
An interesting read for fans of the genre and/or this well known tale.
