I bought this book simply because making cheese at home was something I always wanted to have a go at, but never knew where to start. I mean, I know I can go to a cheese-making suppliers, and buy kits, and get recipes off the internet, but what I wanted was just all the details of what I would need and how to go about making cheese, all in one easy chunk.
Enter this book. Quite simply, it is fantastic. There is the right amount of detail at all stages to tell you what you need to do, and what you need to get hold of. The section on the various processes involved in making cheese was perfect, aimed not to high or low, and explained everything exceptionally well. The recipes which finish this book are a good selection, even if ... Read More:

I have a few recipe books by Rose Elliot (some from years ago, but more recently The Bean Book and Veggie Chic). I like her ideas, although at times they can become predictable. However, this is a good book and has some excellent quick meal ideas. Great for anyone in a hurry who needs to avoid yet another boring sarnie.

I debated carefully about ordering this book because I am a complete sucker for photographs, but having just taken delivery of it I am delighted to find that the author has preceded each recipe with her own illustrative introduction which in some cases almost provide you with a taste of the dish! For example on the recipe for "Chickpeas with Parsley-Tahini Sauce" she notes:
"... This addictive appetizer - rather like an un-mashed hummus - is terrific with pita bread, crackers, or served in butter lettuce or radicchio leaves. Ready in just about five minutes using canned chickpeas, you simply can't beat its convenience when unexpected guests drop by. ...."
This is the best little book available for the everyday meal planner. It is the only one that is regularly used out of my many vegetarian cookery books.

I have had this book on my shelves for a couple of years now and unfortunately didnt look at it being more into the low fat way of eating. Ive been vegetarian for approx 20 years and have been putting on weight since a cholecystectomy 12 years ago. The key thing for this diet is that this book has enabled me to diet without feeling hungry - cravings are at a minimum. Weight loss wise the first couple of weeks I lost nearly a stone and loss has been around 2-3 lbs since then. While it requires some form of dedication from the dieter, the author has adapted low carb foods for the vegetarian/vegan diet amazingly well and with great creativity. This has helped me no end. I especially like the rice alternative and when you are needing a sweet treat ... Read More:

This cookbook, like the restaurant, is life affirming, creative and full of wonderful flavours. It also feels healthy and ecologically sound as well so you might think theres a catch. No, not this time... all you gotta do is a bit of effort and you will be eating very well indeed.

This area is outside my remit, so I drafted in a Vegan friend for her comments on this book. She described it as the equivalent of `Nigella Express', i.e. fullest flavour without the effort!
Possibly not the best title for this book, as in the use of the word 'Feasts', and it is true to say that the recipes do use `Vegan' variations of ingredients, e.g.:- Vegan mayo/cheese slices/margarine, chocolate or soya milk/cream and some do advise checking the ingredients list of each product, e.g. gravy powder to check that it is meat-free.
So, perhaps, a bit of work to be done on the shopping side before commencing cooking, but worth it in the long run!
She felt that it is a good mix of recipes both for one starting out on this road, i.e. ... Read More:

I recently made the transition from a vegetarian of 20 years to a vegan. I purchased 4 vegan cook books but this is the only one I've bothered with - it's so good I've not really looked at the others as they're based on cooking for 4 in most recipes. I was initially disappointed by the lack of pictures but in fact I now find that a good thing - I try the meals regardless of what they look like. It's made the transition to vegan very easy and ensures I get a good variety of foods. Living on my own, when I was veggie I'd regularly end up eating the same meal for 3 nights in a row but now there's none of that. The shopping list is very helpful and I like the way it plans for the week - although I have repeated a recipe one week as I didn't like the ingredients ... Read More:

I bought this book for my Mom who had just been on a one day course in Bristol on how to live with cancer and how food can help. Both my Mom and Dad found the course very useful, so I thought I'd buy them a book that would hopefully back up what they had learnt.
This book is fantastic - so my Mom says, it backs everything up that she learnt on her course, and is written in a precise and clear way, that she can understand. The recipes are most useful. One of the authors was actually the tutor on the course, and the other was the oncologist.
This book is a must if you are living with cancer and have just found out (like my Mom did) that she is not to have any dairy products in her diet.
This is a wonderful collection of easy to prepare vegetarian dishes that taste amazing. Nadine Abensur transforms simple vegetables like potatoes and spinach into something heavenly. This is what vegetarian food is all about ... dishes that make you want to make them again and again and again. Some of my favourites are the beetroot risotto, spinach soup, and the celeriac and porcini gratin. I love this book because all the dishes I have tried are lovely and if you're cooking for someone else you can be guaranteed that whatever you choose to make from this book will impress your guest without fail. Gone are the days of boring, bland veggie food; Nadine Abensur's book changes the taste of lentils, tofu and cabbage to something spectacular and special.
