I pretty enjoyed this book it is well paced and quite easy to read and I can see this being made into a film because of the way it reads ( I believe this something the author does tend to go for). But there in lies it problem, there is not that much depth in the story and no real history/suspense in the conspiracy. The ending is a bit abrupt for my taste.
But still a worthy read

I can't help but write a review for this book even though we don't read it anymore. It is a very treasured book which my children absolutely loved - a real favourite. It is charming, sweet and fun. It tackles problems of pregnancy on every page in a calm, lilting poem which is perfectly suited to very young children. It gives an explanation for things which might otherwise frighten children such as morning sickness and tiredness. It is particularly touching to read that the author became father to twins at the end.
A sweet, safe, kind book which is a great help when you are expecting a baby and the elder sibling is still very young.

This is the third book I have read by Elizabeth Chadwick, the others being 'The Greatest Knight' and 'The Scarlet Lion', and I can say this is the best yet. Chadwick does for English medievel history what Wilbur Smith has done for colonial africa - educate. Highly Recommended.

What an excellent Tudor mystery - Sansom really brings Tudor life 'back to life'! If you enjoy grizzly murder mysteries with twists and turns then this is for you. It is well up to the standard of the previous 3 Shardlake novels and we can only hope the fourth one will not be too long in arriving! Read and enjoy - one to immerse onself in on a cold winter night!

It's been a few years since I read any Harris and this proves that he is still a fine writer to me. Here he succeeds quite well in weaving a unique plot around the volcanic eruption of 78AD. Quite why he used an Aquarius beats me (an ancient roman water mains manager type). I have given him 3 stars and not 4 for this, for the simple reason that it took overly long in my opinion to get to the real action. In saying that, as another reviewer has said, Harris still makes the historical lessons interesting.

I waited eagerly on this book and it did not disappoint. It continues the story of the Morland family. The Morland characters are all there, all with their individual quirkiness. The book takes you from Yorkshire to London and France. It deals with love and hate. The historical detail is as ever breathtaking. Beginnings of plastic surgery and mobile Xrays fascinate and the womens rights issue is not ignored. If I have any criticism it is that although the First world war is described amazingly well I think it is time to move away from it now. As it first began in book 28 let us hope book 32 sees the end of it.

This book is incredible! i read it in 1 day as i couldn't put it down and sped through it. Alison's desciptions were first class and it left me wanting for more, you can believe that these world's nd poeple exsit. :)
Maerad's/Cadvan's relationship is very intense and when they argue it made me feel sad and i can really relate to it.
When Arkan comes in to the picture it is obvious, to me, that maerad and him are destined to belong together and the small reactions and emotions that they show when they are together sends shivers down my spine.
My one critisism is that Maerad and Arkan really should have kissed once just before he reads the runes on her lyre it would have just completed the whole "Je ne sais quoi"
