I have just started a marine tank and found this book very useful in my new venture. It details info such as essential water parameters, feeding, basic set up - all good advice on how to get to grips with this fascinating hobby. There is a section on aquascaping, which is interesting, but it would have been useful to have diagrams too. The REALLY useful section is the comprehensive list, with pictures, of a range of marine wildlife, which also details how easy they are to keep, feed, any special habitual requirements etc. All in all, a useful book to have at your disposal. I have read it thoroughly once and have dipped into it numerous time since I bought it a few weeks ago. Useful advice well written - worth the money.

Living with a human/dog reactive dog can be very stressful, and finding the right help can be very difficult. Owning such a dog, I have read many of the books on dog aggression and feel this is the best one out there. Pam Dennison has gone through the trials of rehabilitating her own human aggressive dog, as well as helping many others rehab their own dogs. She writes about the science behind positive mototivational dog training in a simple to understand manner, and describes in detail a step by step program for starting the rehabilitation of a reactive dog. I thouroughly recommend this book to help owners of reactive dogs start the desensitisation process and to understand the importance of getting the right kind of help for their dog. I feel many ... I'd lend my copy this book to anyone even vaguely interested in the subject. I can't really assess how sound the philosophy behind the ideas in this book is, because i don't really know it, but as an outline of the main animal rights theories, its impeccable. DeGrazia has written more academic works, but this is very straightforward and accessible, it certainly made me think about animals in a different way.
Criticism - its not impartial. The author quickly states his own perspective and views, and these always seem to get the most covereage. He appears to sometimes dismiss criticism of animal rights a bit too flippantly. But overall, this is a very readable and interesting book.

This collection of essays is a compelling read. It brings together many of the world's foremost authorities on animal rights and primate behaviour. While the book may seem somewhat daunting at first glance it is, in fact, very readable. It covers many different aspects of the lives of primates and gives a fascinating insight into their behaviour. It is one of the most compelling and convincing arguments for extending some basic 'human' rights to include our humanoid relatives. The book reminds us that these primates are not simply 'animals' to be used as we see fit, but are in actual fact closely related - both evolutionarily and behaviourally - to us. A must read for anyone who is concerned by the state of the world today.
