I have lost count of the number of egg-free cookery books I have bought that rely almost entirely on egg-replacers. I feel I can follow the instructions on the side of the egg replacer packet myself.
This book however is different - it is egg-free and relies entirely on substitution of other ingredients eg soured yoghurt. It also produces the closest thing you can get to a cake with eggs (sadly you can never get anything quite as meltingly delicious as a cake with eggs).
The book contains recipes, a really good guide to how to put together your own substitutions and most importantly how to pick up the pieces if it all goes wrong!

I'm an enthusaistic amateur with a wide variety of cookbooks covering many styles. This however, is one that I regularly return to. John Burton Race and Angela Harnett have written in a very open and easy style, but more importantly, the portion sizes, cooking times and temperatures are spot on which is an area that I find many other authors are weak with... also this isn't what might be termed "extravagant" restuarant food, it's just a great selection of fantastic quality, inventive yet achievable recipes. Thoroughly recommended, even if the book title is terrible!

I think this is honestly the worst book on allergies I have ever bought.
You could buy any ordinary cook book and it would be as good. If it was as easy as just 'leaving out the eggs' or just don't bother putting the milk in this recipe for dairy free version, us mums wouldn't be looking for help with food ideas for our children in the first place. If I had bought this in a book store I would have been standing at their door waiting for a refund first thing the next morning!

This is the first recipe book I go to when I've been presented with a previously 'uncooked' vegetable in my lucky dip organic delivery. It hasn't failed to provide me with a tasty recipe with ingredients that are likely to already be in my pantry. Clean, tasty, no dairy substitutes (yuck!). I've never considered the lack of food photos to be an inconvenience. Well done!
