Allergy Self-help Cookbook: Over 325 Natural Foods Recipes, Free of Wheat, Milk, Eggs, Corn, Yeast, Sugar and Other Common Food Allergens

I am a naturopathic physician and I deal with many patients who have food allergies and intolerances. I have found this book to be an excellent resource and recommend it frequently to my patients. I have tried some of the recipes myself and they were good. Definitely a great place to start on the very difficult path of changing to a hypoallergenic diet.

I love this book. I got a few hens and simply wanted to be able to use up the eggs they were producing. I have never even had an interest in cooking or baking - for me it's all about the eggs! I was almost put off buying this book because some reviews said that cooking experience was required, but I'm glad I took the chance. He describes absolutely every technique and in detail. I even made soufflés that worked out perfectly first time!

So don't be put off. This book is a gem for the newbie as well as the more experienced.

How to Wrap Five More Eggs: Traditional Japanese Packaging

by: Hideyuki Oka

How to wrap 5 more eggs is a fascinating book focusing on the subject of traditional Japanese packaging. Hideyuki Oka is a packaging collector who has produced a work outstanding in its simplicity: pictures of packaging and a brief comment to explain what the packaging is for and when it was made. Many types of traditional packing have been collected here. From woven straw egg carriers (hence the title) to ceremonial gift boxes, each piece is presented in a very clear, full or half page photograph. The book is forwarded with an introductory essay by the author and each plate is referenced to an explanation at the back.
This book is fascinating as it illustrates how traditional wrapping techniques- many arrived at out of necessity rather ... Read More:

Ant Egg Soup: The Adventures of a Food Tourist In Laos

Travel books and cookery books are not my normal fare. But on this occasion, following a terrifically good holiday to Laos I was lent a copy of Ant Egg Soup - an account of a food tourist's visit to the Lao PDR.

Essentially, Ant Egg Soup is an exercise in journalism rather than literature. The theme is reportage, even if there is a leitmotif of food and recipes through the text. And that is fine, Laos is an interesting country about which the world knows little. Natasha du Pont de Bie's food orientated travel broke down barriers with the Lao people, allowing her to gain very personal perspectives on the nation's troubled history. This comes into particular focus in the Plain of Jars chapter, where Natasha du Pont de Bie meets the cousin ... Read More:
