If you are into reinforcement learning and looking for an alternate meta heruistic try this book. This is one of the few books that you can find in this area. It gives a brief description of Ant colony optimisation which is an agent based optimisation method that is influenced from emergent behaviour of simple and individual ants in the nature. I was particularly interested with antnet routing algorithm which is explained in detail in one chapter.

This book is part of the excellent series on the environment by the Open University, UK. This is the first book of the series, but it can be read on its own. Whereas the other books of the series examine a theme in depths, this book provides an excellent overview. Using up-to-date examples this books gives you an excellent idea about what challenges the environment currently faces. The course is clearly interdisciplinary. This means that there is something for everyone: scientific facts are there as are the social analyses. Where the text introduces new theories or difficult concepts, the reader is helped step by step. There are many activities to check the understanding of the text or reflect on the argument. This book is rather depressing and alarming in it's outlook, but maybe this is just what we need. We have to face facts.
Richard Heinberg has gathered evidence from a variety of sources to paint a picture of the future if we continue to use and aim to use non-renewable energy sources. The theory is, and it is a theory that is backed up by most experts, that these sources of energy will become far rarer in the future. This will have economic consequences (ie a major downturn over time) as well as geopolitical (ie more resource-based wars). The book is written in a really friendly way and is designed to engage with younger readers. It's the kind of book we should all read to our kids - books like this, and newer ones like yucketypoo are pitched at the right level to engage and explain important issues. We loved it.
