I was a little disappointed in the contents of this book. Allotment history maybe useful to some, but I wanted more practical advice. I find it a bit confusing in its layout and have to search backwards and forwards for information I want.

Valentine's day is creeping up on the Sohmas, and for a family that turns into animals when they're hugged by the opposite sex, this could be a problem.
Fortunately Natsuki Takaya doesn't resort to the obvious gags, in the third volume of "Fruits Basket." Instead, she introduces some new members of the Chinese zodiac, brings a couple back into the picture, and sheds some light on Shigure's shady motives for keeping Tohru in his house.
While on an endurance run, Tohru sees a white-haired man lying by the roadside, and rushes to help -- only to find that he's Hatsuharu Sohma, a punky teenager. He and Kyo soon get into a martial-arts (and verbal) free-for-all -- until Yuki collapses from an asthma attack. To get him back ... Read More:

This is a novel for all those wondering why they restrict their reading to British and American fiction, or, in my case, mainly just British. I'd decided to read, and compare for myself, all last year's Booker shortlisted novels, and found this one impressively original. The story is of the torments of an ordinary South African family, set against the macrocosmic torments of a country in seismic political upheaval with the apartheid era moving into its death-throes. The Alis' fragile family life [and NOT, as the back-cover itself states, "the Ali's fragile family life"...; perhaps time somebody at Atlantic Books had a look at Lynne Truss?] is thus an illustration of a country and a civilisation in transition as the present struggles to accommodate ... I was VERY disappointed with this bookLET...not only diminutive in size, but in scope. Very sparse on hard information, it would be a suitable small gift for someone appreciative of thoughtful gestures. But for a serious gardener, it is scarcely worth looking at. The cultural information it contains can be gleaned from a paragraph or two in virtually any gardening reference volume. I am even less satisfied to have paid a higher postage rate for delivery to my French address, money which could have gone towards the purchase of a larger book containing solid information- not jokey writing and line drawings- at the same delivery cost. NOT recommended to serious gardeners!

This is a splendid book and the enthusiasm of the author shines through. No book on cacti can give all the answers, the subject is too vast. The author of this book takes the sensible approach and ensures that the content is well written and informative. The photographs in the book are excellent and show some species that are not normally seen in this type of book, particularly the Asclepiadaceae family. The feeling that the author would like you the reader to know exactly what he knows comes through strongly. There are articles on pests and diseases, grafting, watering and soil mixtures and even some tips on showing your plants. For those people who have a small collection of plants and want to keep them healthy and flowering, without going ... Read More:
