This book is a rare thing. There is something of the streetwise combined the well read.It puts you in a space between the world of the conformist and the outlaw.People can only critisize the sincerity of the story but even that only adds to beautiful prose-like seedy imagery in this unreal chaotic reality. It rocks.

As an novice allotment owner, the book is very informative, and contains listings and notes on most of the varieties of each type of vegetable. The varieties are readily found in seed packets at any garden centre, and give advice as to which is best for certain conditions and yields, etc.
The recipes are very good. The Irish colcannon is so simple.
A great book even if you only want to grow a few things in your garden.

Natsuki Takaya hit manga gold with "Fruits Basket," a romantic/comic/fantasy story about one cursed family, and a girl who might be able to set them all free.
And "Fruits Basket Ultimate Edition Volume 1" is a must-have for any manga fan who doesn't already own the series -- two books' worth compiled into one, with a hardcover binding, colour art and new foreword. The story itself starts a big sluggishly, but soon falls into its comedic and dramatic stride.

A good book for a flick through for inspiration. Not much text, but some funny anecdotes on the purposes of the outfits and current obsessions of the people in the book. A lot of the styles are generally unwearable everyday, but a good magazine style book. Very inspirational, not just the clothes but the hair styles and makeup. Leave it on a able when your friends come around to seem knowledgable and colourful-its a very eye-grabbing book!

A curious mixture of stories and semi-autobiography which come together to shape the life of Jeanette, the adopted daughter of a church-obsessed mother and a quiet, dominated father. Oranges are not the Fruit traces Jeanette teenage years, growing up in a northern town in a community in which she never quite fits, despite her talent for preaching and her wildly imaginative ideas. The structure of the novel, skirting and spiralling between an disjointed biographical narrative and other stories which shape Jeanette's development, suits perfectly what is a gritty discourse on the nature of personality, history and memory and the importance of perspective in developing all three. And at the same time, it's an engaging, if sometimes distressing, story too.
