The book is well set-out and the introductory chapter tells you how much is one portion of fruit and/ or vegetables. (One star awarded for this!) Armed with this knowledge, I set out to increase my fruit and veg. consumption..........
However, many of the recipes included are, unless you are a complete beginner, pretty much well known and hardly improve on one's intake of fruit and vegetables. I also presumed that the number of portions of fruit/ vegetables per serving of each recipe would be given, (not unlike calorie-counted recipes) but one is left to work this out for oneself. I found out why......
For example, included is a recipe for lemon meringue pie, which is not exactly going to increase one's fruit ... Read More:

A truly delightful book - informative and beautiful to look at. Anna Pavord shows that vegetables don't need to be planted in boring, neat, straight lines. They can be used to create different types of garden full of interest, colour and beautiful designs, from traditional kitchen gardens, cottage gardens and potagers to pots on balconies and window boxes. There is something for everyone here. I've always had a flower garden, with no inclination to 'spoil' the look with vegetables, even though I wanted to try growing some. This has sparked my interest to create a cottage garden, using vegetables - good looks and home-grown food: a double treat.

This book is easy to read and full of colour photos. However, I did notfind it a useful guide to organic gardening. I had imagined there would be tips on aspects such as companion planting; but what you get is a diary of Pippa's garden with just a few tips hidden amongst the text detailing her own successes!
