I really love this book. Yes, the recipes are a bit more complicated than most other cookbooks, and yes, you do come across some ingredients that are not readily available everywhere in the world, but I tend to adapt recipes as I go along anyways, and this book has been a very good source of inspiration for me.
I find that many vegan cookbooks go for the same old stews and 'homey' foods, which are nice, but may ultimately become a bit boring, and - let's face it - aren't very impressive when it does come to cooking for non-vegans. This book gives a nice selection of fairly posh nosh, and some of the dishes are cooked over and over again in this household.
This is a cookery book with a nice dollop of social history thrown in. Vividly captures the punk era in Dublin, and the recipes aint half bad either. Worth having if you lived through this period just for the anecdotes, and you dont have to be a Vegan to enjoy the recipes.

Wonderfully helpful information about the things that arn't so good for us and the things that are. I am really impressed with Jeani's holistic approach to life and the values she has to good healthy living. I have been a vegan for a year now and i have had a very simple but nutrtious diet, and this book has many yummy sounding recipies, that im lookin forward to trying out, which i think will vary what im eating a lot. thankyou jeani. Being vegan is a very healthy way of life, i feel great for it.... and it gets better and better! Especially when people write books like this......! :)

When I initially went vegan, I lost a bit of weight through cutting down on unhealthy snacks... then I bought this book and gained it all back on again, through having batches of delicious freshly made cake in my kitchen tempting me!
Weight gain aside, this book is fantastic, great value for money, using easy to find ingredients, and has easy-peasy recipes that even a total novice in the kitchen- like myself when I first went vegan- can follow.
So what if it's full of sugar and oil and not exactly healthy? Cakes are supposed to be a treat, and this book proves not all vegan food is bland or boring- just make sure you share your home baking with your friends and don't scoff the lot like I did! ;)
