I wasn't sure I needed yet another vegan cookbook to add to my already oversized collection. But the cover caught my eye and Jae Steele's blog is a must read so I thought I'd give her cookbook a go.
And I'm very glad I did! She's a Registered Holistic Nutritionist so her recipes are balanced and nutritious, not mention they taste amazing! Her style of writing is easy to follow yet informative, even for those who think they've heard all of the facts before when it comes to veganism and nutrition. I've been looking for a cookbook that was based on using health sustaining ingredients in all of its recipes and I've finally found one! I recommend it without reservation to anyone interested in increasing their vegan cooking repertoire.

My main issue with this book is that most of the recipes are simply variations of each other. I mean there must be at least a dozen variations on Boston Cream Pie--does anyone like Boston Cream Pie that much? (Apart from the author, obviously) The book seems made up of cheesecake, the aforementioned Boston Cream Pie, fruit tart, and cream pie variations. It just seems like she could have suggested a few variations and left it up to readers to experiment. Now, I have to confess I haven't actually made anything out of this cookbook--I just haven't been inspired--maybe the lack of pictures? Plus, her cheesecake recipe looks exactly like mine, but doubled, with some sort of tofu topping", and with more complicated directions. I suppose it's ... Read More:

A beautifully presented book with fantastic, easy to follow recipies. The great thing about this book is that for people on vegan and restricted diets it's so heartening to discover that there are perfectly good substitutes for most ingredients. You get the feeling that Anette is very passionate about her food and in providing her family and friends with healthy, delicious fare that does not compromise on taste and appearance. All the recipies I have tried so far have been very successful. They range from adapted old favourites to imaginative recipies using ingredients that can be easily sourced. I'm sure this will become my main bible for recipies.
